Being from Detroit I should love hockey, but I don't. I watch it as often as I watch basketball (almost never).

The two winningest franchises in the city, and you don't follow the Red Wings or the Pistons...

This happened to Major League Baseball in 1994-95 and attendance was cut by the fans 19% and in some markets much worse for years afterward.

There was no NHL season in 2004-05. Attendance went up afterwards, but tv ratings went down. The theory is that the diehards became more starved for their hockey, while many of the casual viewers got turned off.

Hehe, I haven't actually, never left Europe - I was gonna head out to ASW, but then all the ID and everything made it too complicated. Canada's definitely somewhere I'd like to visit though.

Fair point about the Red Wings and their 11 Stanley Cups but:

Tigers have 4 World Series Titles
Lions have 4 NFL Championships
Pistons have 3 NBA Championships

I just don't enjoy watching hockey or basketball though. I still play basketball every week too, but just can't watch it.

I wish there was a season, but in a way I'm glad there is a lockout. The contracts given out in free agency were just retarded.
