WickedFire told me to post so i am....

Hello Telboy it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?

;)

Anyway, Whilst trying to sleep yesterday i thought of a very catchy name for an occupation, which relies purely on word of mouth advertising at the moment.. and i can't actually name a leader in the market at the moment.

Now the only real way i can think of monetizing would be to (Leaflet and poster bomb the site) then start with one occupation, ( Divert alot of work to him) then as the hits start coming charge other people to be listed?

So Really my question is, does Poster/Leaflet bombing work? and to save cost, and my legs ;) i was planning on getting the paper boys to post the flyers with the newspapers

In my experience it works. But the ratios aren't great and it depends what you are selling. What do you mean you are generating leads and charging commission?? Also, you need to choose your audience correctly for best results. I think the cheapest and safest/ most relaible option would be to rope in a young relative do go round delivering the leaflets... Otherwise they may just end up being dumped by the paperboy. HTH

Well as an example; Say the occupation was a window cleaner, First of all i need to promote the site, but obviously i can't do this without a window cleaner to do the actual work, so while the calls are hopefully coming in I give Mr Cloth and Bucket all the work, charging a small percentage for the sudden increase of work.

Once I feel theres enough work/customers, Ill move work to Mr Squeegee and charge another percentage?

The real problem i see at the minute though is Squeegy, and Cloth and Bucket aren't working under my catchy brand name - which is where this whole idea derived from :disgust:

I have had the same idea... Are mr squeege and mr cloth and bucket ready to go with a bucket and sponge and free time!!??

Also, they will need 'window cleaning insurance' etc... (if applicable) So u cant just give ur mate a bucket and sponge and send him on his way...

Well luckily enough, his already in the "window cleaning business ;)" so there wouldn't really be a problem... the only real problem i see, is currently he owns his "window cleaning business" and although his slow for work at the minute, he does ok from it.

Btw, Where abouts in the UK you from?

Ok... i just typed out a full message and lost it lol so im keeping it short! I would say go for it but make sure you have enough people in place that you trust to cover the work. Also, if you are relying on brand image then i would set up a landline somewhere and divert it to your mobile. You pay for the calls but it looks a lot better on your printed media (at least that is how it works in the UK). For extra points you could set up a free phone though this may be overkill.
There is a thread knocking about on here about local business SEO which may be of interest to u if you search for it.
Let me know what you think.... I am considering doing something similar so it would be good to have somebody to compare notes with if u want!!
p.s. I am from Leeds.. u?

It's early, and I'm still quaffing coffee. It's not totally clear to me what your plan is, but as for the handing out of flyers/leaflets, you should definitely hand that off to some young lads with lots of energy.

Why not do some keyword research to see what people are searching for related to the market you want to dominate, and get the site ranked for the top two or three. You could do this in addition to or instead of poster bombing.

Also, read these two threads all the way through. Your head will be FULL of ideas of how to make this work. :music06:

Yeah, the plan was to set up a new number with skype, and have it divert to "Mr squeegys" number for the time being, then when things get bigger ill have to sort something so i can pick and choose who it goes to..

And definately, with a bit of luck, it will be the same occupation ;)

And Essex, but definately give me up a PM, See if we can sort out some thing.

if i were you i would take the calls and sort the work out. I don't know how well you know 'mr sqeegy' but if i was him i would be tempted to just do the work and not mention it. You want as much control over your cashflow as possible, regardless of who you are working with. Will pm u.

You still have paper boys?

Didn't think they hired kids any longer (at least the big papers).

Oh yeah we have paper boys. The shops that sell the papers hire them as opposed to the papers themselves. i was a paper boy for 3-4 years!!

Let's get creative here.

First, start such a site for door to door flyers. Hire a door to door flyer distributor to pass out flyers to local businesses advertising your flyer distribution business. In effect, you will be paying someone to solicit business that will eventually pay for itself.

Now, when you gather enough businesses together you can use your flyer business to subsidize your own flyer campaigns to advertise whatever you want.

Keep repeating this concept till you find yourself living next door to Bill Gates.

nice. I suppouse you could build up a 'package' and do one round... only problem.. local businesses ie trading estates tend to be scattered about.... so would need transport. By area to houses would suit papaerboy age employees better...
