If his music appeals to masses it's by definition good quality. See, people like music that's good and they don't like music that's bad. Does that make sense?

And btw I'm a certified musician too.

Then how do you explain the majority of rap/pop?

You're nobody until the nobodies hate on you....

I hated the guy then grew to love him when he said one time when asked if he liked to read, "I'm too busy writing history to read it!"

Ha....

Actually I did some investigation and the guy actually gives a lot of money to charity. So he can't be a total douche...

Yes, seriously. Wanna share what do you think is real criteria for good music?

If you think what the masses like is always the smart or best choice...just remember you go to a forum where people made millions on pitching sugar pills. The general population is generally stupid.

There is a difference between being able to sell records and true talent. More often than not, those with true musical talent go unnoticed because they can't be marketed to the mindless drones. But the Kanyes, Lady Gaga's, and Justin Beibers can all be made to appeal the the mindless masses of idiots and club rats.

Insane Clown Posse is more popular than a lot of artists. Does that make them good? Are you an ICP fan, JoseArmando?

Been hatin' on me, so what if I'm in science and in a symphony? I can back it up with facts, no need to front about that.

Having marketing behind them doesn't automatically mean mindless drones don't actually like the music.

Obviously, you could say that basically any artist with the same push as Bieber would have the same success... but would they?

There is true talent behind Lady Gaga's of this world. Just watch some live performances of her from before she became famous.

That idiotic niche audience obviously thinks it's good music, noone can negate that.

It might not be good music by your standards, but what you're actually saying is you don't LIKE it, you can't really say it's bad music.

And I do believe you about your credentials but pulling them out in a philosophical debate is pointless to say the least.

Especially because I'm also a musician and me playing violin doesn't give me any authority on this matter because we're talking about the experience of listening to music, not composing/playing.

A lot of the real talent is in the producer behind the artist for instance Red1 basically made Lady Gaga is what she is today. Granted she could sing/write before, but all of her hits, he basically had to sit in the booth and grind out the rest of the track when she was done with the vocals.

And then you have guys like Dr.Luke and Benny Blanco who basically made hit after hit producing and writing parts of the song. That's where the real work is done.

Kanye can do both fairly well, which is a plus in my book. He also knows how to sample good music.

That's pure silliness. You can't tell anything about anyone based on their musical choices. Should I call you an uncultured hick because chances are you don't subscribe to Opera News magazine as some of us "mindless drones" do?

No...

Music - as an extension of culture - is an acquired taste. While I do agree that a lot of fantastic music gets missed in the midst of the over-marketed mainstream stuff, one can't throw the baby out with the bath water.

As an example, Kanye did a killer tune that sampled a classic Nina Simone track - is she mainstream?

The fact that some of us like his music doesn't make us idiots or stop me from writing this while I listen to [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUkQgOv7R3A"]Concerto Grosso No. 12 in D[/ame]

(humming "I'm, I'm so high...I'm I'm so high...touch, touch the sky" while I do a specialized Yeezy-Baroque remix.....lol)
