Proof that he will bankrupt America you say?

I don't think taxing companies who produce large amounts of greenhouse gasses will bankrupt America. If anything it forces us to take clean energy more seriously and move in another direction, a direction we have to move in at one point or another anyway.

For all the Obama hate on this forum, I really haven't seen any convincing pro-McCain material. I think people need to take a longer look at what an Obama presidency means in the long term, as opposed to the short as far as energy goes.

I can't speak for everyone, but most that are disagreeing with Obama are disagreeing with McCain on many levels also. I can assume that since they are just about the issues rather than the person, one would vote McCain because he is less wrong yet far from 100% right ... you won't find reason in people who are passionate about Obama, just look at the atheist/theist threads floating around. Both sides have too much passion to be reasonable ... most people anyways.

I'm voting Chuck Baldwin. Would it surprise anyone that I went to Memphis last weekend and saw 80% McCain yard signs and 20% Baldwin/Obama ones? whoddathunkit

it forces us

Thats government regulation and is bad regardless of the good it hopes to achieve.

Free college for "every child every year" (another Obama thing) is bad also. Many good aspects but not a sound system due to the abuse.

... much like medicare

... much like Fannie/Freddie

... much like welfare

... much like social security

... much like the middle east. Yes, the whole fucking thing including Israel's funding.

Are you crazy! Obama just stated that he would tax coal plants into BK and electricity cost would skyrocket.

Do you realize that skyrocketing electric bills would hurt badly, an already failing economy. Did you even listen to the audio?

This is the kind of Obamablindness that I find amazing and scary.

It's not Obamablindness: It's popeyeblindness.
You've turned too many molehills into mountains.
This is
1)Not proof of anything.
2)Definitely not about bankrupting anything in reality. It's saying "don't open those, build something up to date"

We can't make companies change and adapt, but we can sure as fuck give them a good reason to.

The problem is, too many Obama supporters just dont care. How many voters are going to go vote tomorrow, only to find out 6 months later that their new president's policies have caused their employers to lay them off?

Soo sad, but who would have thought a republican would have nationalized the financial system?

If he gets elected possible stock market crash will happen just have to see how it all pans out. Ive pulled all my stocks for now. 30% capital gain is INSANE and might cause a huge sell off.. and sell more sell off until it bottoms.

The energy companies are the same, but regional monopoly style. We don't have a *choice* for energy companies(at least I sure as shit don't) so they do whatever the hell they want. Factor in their self-interest in having short-term profits, and the whole mother fucker stagnates.

Fuck, that can't be the same across the states, can it?

We've had a choice of energy suppliers for the last decade - cost has fallen, but it has brought other problems (mostly dodgy selling tactics - something I'm sure a few of you are familiar with!)

Most of the world lives in mixed economies like yours and ours and they do work better than any other system that has been tried. The question is which bits are left to free markets and which bits does the government deal with (or give a monopoly to one company - which seems far worse than state monopoly or a free market)...

I'd much rather have limited choice on healthcare and 50 different companies bullshitting to try and sell me electricity than the other way around.

Nuclear: Sort out a way to completely deal with the waste and I'd back it, until then...

" I'm not opposed to nuclear, though I'd like to see some numbers on how far the other alternative sources could take us w/o it's use"
Although I'm not advocating it, Scientific Americian says that pure solar, wind, and wave power will take us through the next 50 years anyway.
Drillin' is dead.

All these pie in the sky alternatives are nice on paper. Do you realize the cost and scale to totally take us off coal? We don't have the economy ATM to be fuckin around with unproven shit.

Alternative must be gradually implemented. We can't throw cap and trade in the system and BK coal plants. We must move to alternatives slowly while at the same time dismantling the coal plants.

Obama has to realize that he can't move our country to his socialist utopia overnight. Doing so will destroy what economy we have left.
