most of the members here probably haven't heard or care but apparently queensland is now 65% covered in water.. anyone on here in the heavily affected areas?

I'm in Southern NSW, it's raining a shit load, but nothing like whats happening up there. Most of QLD has been declared a disaster zone, and it's expected to get worse in the coming days.

Whoah. Thats something you dont get to see everyday. Berry, I think if someone is in an affected area, they would be offline.

may not all offline. I am in se qld. not flooded but can't go to work. spoke to a friend that lives near maryborough and apparently they cannot get petrol or basic foods like bread and milk because all shops are out until further notice

My partner is right in the thick of it- luckily he's on high ground, but two people were killed yesterday in Towoomba- guy and his kid sitting on a porch I guess when a fucking wall of water came down the street and washed them away.

He says it's rained every day for six feckin weeks bar 3-4 days. They are bleeding off the Brisbane dam which is at 140% and flooding towns to keep the dam up. If THAT goes, it will be a fuckin disaster- whole towns washed out, and serious body count.

Bad Juju.

Galacon, it is true SE QLD has had alot of rain over the last 5 weeks. the dam you are referring to is somerset which is at 145% as of tonight... Wivenhoe dam which is the main one that essentially designed to stop brisbane from flooding is at 200% compacity which means according to the dam advisors it is now at the point if more rain comes through (which they know it will) brisbane cbd and surrounding areas will be under by thursday.

Gcad1981 as harsh as I dont want this to sound the locals call brisbane "River City" from time to time. well the river is rising and yes it will be like a new venice for a little while to come.

Toowoomba - so far 10 confirmed dead, but several dozen people still unaccounted for. A mate up there said it just came out of nowhere, one minute everything normal, next minute a wall of water racing through the city centre.

yea there is more clips coming through like that regularly now. according to sunrise this morning brisbane river has broken banks and flood waters are on the rise. anna bligh and gilard are in brisbane today. They have allocated army personel to help out and have allocated over 1000 centrelink staff to help with calls and payments. they claim 17 mil has been paid out so far in funds to victims. one the tv last night they reckon we are going to be up for another 12 weeks of rain so this will continue. they also reckon there is over 11 bil in damage done so far.

that could still have effects on internet up here in queensland though... how you guys going up there? got much water damage yourself Mike?

Blessings on you all, mates. We're praying for you here.

If any WF Aussie needs to, PM me and I will give you a phone number you can reach me at if you need anything done, like an email sent, blog post done, post made here, etc. in case your Net goes down for long.

Cairns isn't affected. But have friends in Brisbane who've lost their house and car. They reckon they have seen houses with people still inside being swept away.. people yelling from inside.. horrible!

They estimated the rains to continue for another 6-7 weeks or so. The dam is at 200%+ capacity, which is adding to the floodings in the area as well, as they need to release all that water in order to prevent the dam wall from colapsing.

Wouldn't want to be there that's for sure.

I got everyone in the office to donate, as they are definitely going to need it!
