My wife has this flash game site girlygame(.)net and wants to sell it so she can pay for College. My question is do you think we could sell it for around $10,000? Because that is how much she needs. I know most of you will say, "The site is worth how ever much someone else is willing to pay for it". However with the following facts do you guys think it could sell for that amount?

The Site Facts

Monthly Page Loads: 101,005
Monthly Visitors:
27,617
Monthly Income:
$130
Sources of Income: neverblueads, text-link-ads, private advertisers, adsense, shoppingads
Google Rankings:
1st for "girly game"
2nd for "girly games"
1st for "fun girly games"
1st for "girly online games"
2nd for "girly site"

I personally think with that amount of traffic someone else with better knowledge about getting advertisers could make much more.

I would like to get everyones input before I put this site on the market.

Most you could hope to get for it is 8-12 times of the monthly revenue. I don't think the domain itself would be worth much.

Just my opinion based on previous experience and observation.

Bob, is there any possibility (and time) for you to test your site?

With 27K+ monthly visitors, you should be able to increase the monthly income. Maybe a rotator to throw various offers at your audience (if a large percentage of the 27K are returns). Will your audience absorb any related offers (Myspace layouts, etc.)?

If you could bump the income to $1,000 per month, your wife could finance a college loan and you'd still keep your online property.

Just thinking out loud.

When I buy sites its often based on the actual monthly revenue, in some niches upto 12 - 14 months revenue, but some lower. Of course there is many other factors depending when buying in some niches such as pontential, traffic, memberbase etc..

"Over crowded" niches like free flash games sites making $130 wont be sold anything close to $10,000. More likely around $800 - $1000 imho.

Good luck though :)

I would offer exclusive games to join a mailing list or membership club. That might be a way to monetize your site. That way your site will be more sticky

loyolabenson had a great idea.

This will sound a little loopy, but it actually worked pretty well when I did it about 2 years ago with a Clickbank product...

Get your visitors to opt-in to a mailing list. As loyolabenson mentioned, offer exclusive games or something that really gets them excited.

Create an autoresponder sequence ahead of time. Dozens of messages. Make 'em short and punchy. Use great headlines that drive high open rates. The goal is to get your list to open the email, scan the contents and click the link.

The link should send them to a page that makes you money. Sometimes, it'll be a merchant. Sometimes, it'll be a lander on your site. Sometimes, it'll be a quick tip laced with Adsense.

Hit your list with one message per week (no need to pummel them). Or, mix it up so they don't get bored, expecting your messages on a certain day.

Now, here's the kicker...

Instead of the boring messages that simply promote things, create a character. Someone that your audience can identify with.

Then, have your autoresponder send the messages written by that character. He/she could be funny (hard to pull off in email), sarcastic, edgy, cute, etc.

Each message could just be about 100 words or so and say something consistent with the character you've created...

"Oh my gosh. Yesterday, my boyfriend told me about this awesome game! He thought it was silly, but I'm absolutely hooked! It's totally free and I want you to try it. But, I lost the link to the darn game. I know it's somewhere in my email.

"I promise to find it tonight and send you the link tomorrow, Tracy. You're SOOOO going to love this game!"

- Trademark again. I forgot to mention something. Get their first name for the opt-in. That way you can make each message sound personal.

And that's it. Then, in your sequence, set a message to go out 24 hours later containing the link with some more tripe.

Load your message sequence into Aweber (or whatever autoresponder you choose). You could literally have an entire year of weekly messages going out to your audience.

When I did it, I was actually buying my traffic and sending them to a lander driving the opt-in. Overall, my opt-in rate was about 25%, I think (though a few keywords were consistently getting opt-in conversions at 60%+). I remember my ROI (after pruning some keywords) was around 70% or so. Clickbank ultimately chucked the main lead product, so I killed the sequence. But, my sequence went for several months and promoted different products throughout.

I don't know much about your audience, Bob. But, it could work. Sorry for rambling my way through. I hope it gives you an idea or two. :)

If you could pull even a 10% opt-in, that's still several thousand subscribers on your list over a few months. In each message in your sequence, tell your reader to forward stuff to their friends. You'll get a lot of collateral leads that way.

Sorry I went on so long. I was actually getting a little nostalgic about my own experience a couple years ago with this.

+1, epic tips.

If you're only making $130.00 a month off of 27,000 visitors, you're monetizing it wrong (as others have pointed out).

Quantcast seems to think you have a lot less visitors, and they have been pretty accurate for me in the past.

Here's what I would do:

1. Drop ShoppingAds & AdSense from your site - Waste of time and screen real estate. Focus on pushing your own offers. More on this below.

2. Implement the mailing list as others have mentioned. Take what trademark said and use that, it's gold. To capture email + other demographics, you could simply ask for their email address, or have them create an account on the site to access "VIP Content" or "Members Games" or something along those lines.

3. Focus on more profitable offers.
Really think about the mentality of your visitors. If they are playing online flash games, they are either really young, or adults with too much time on their hands. I'd focus on a couple strategies:

For the kids: Some sort of 'games' offer. Perhaps Flycell games, or an offer with a toolbar download to play games - something along those lines.

For the adults: These folks are bored enough to be playing online flash games, so hit them up with something like survey offers. Explain how easy it is to make money online by filling out surveys. You can generally get paid $1.50-2.00 for simple 1-step submits, or $5-6 dollars for 2-3 step submits.

Think about it. If you're really getting 27,000 visitors and you can mange to get even 5% to fill out a zip/survey offer at $2.00 average:

27,000 x .05 x $2.00 = $2700/month.

2700/month x 12months = $32,400 - in other words, your wife's tuition.

With that amount of visitors, I would rather think of expanding the income and reach of the site.

Income:
Test and optimize ads used and placement.
Start page:
Try placing the lowest ad on your site, in between the content.

Detail page (individual game):
Put the ad in between the game and the description, not above the game.

Category page:
Screwed layout, put games in between the content or below the navigation.

Reach:
Exchange Links with other game sites and, even better, games for young female adults and girls.

Add more sites to make this an "empire" keep them related to your target audience. Examples would be:
- Kids games (young moms)
- Fashion
- Celeb news
- ...

General:
Pay 50 bucks for a decent logo. I think the character idea is OK, but the quality is meh.
Research ads for your target audience (young females) I know the pink iphone email submit does well, and there are many more that may appeal to visitors of your site (webfetti, smileys, makeup, diet). Your wife might know what appeals. Test and optimize.

All in all, I think this site has the potential to earn the tuition and more if played right.

PS: I'll add screenshots later.

There is a lot of great information in this thread. What I would do is lay out a series of banner rotators that will display a given ad based on the users IP. I'm willing to bet that you get a fair bit of international traffic, so monetizing it would be a great thing.

Also, maybe build a VIP area with sime primo games for people whom are willing to fill out a couple of incentive offers. Might be a good way to get even 5% to fill out an e-mail or cell submit- that right there could make you $1,500+/mo (and grow as more people gain access to it).

Let us know how it pans out.

Wow. That is some great information! I've re-read all the replies and wrote out a outline of my new game plan.
