Question on private label supplement companies and I think I am getting fucked.

I am currently working with a private label supplement company and I think they are fucking me on the latest batch of orders by altering the ingredients without telling me. ( I am getting more and more negative feedback from new customers and repeat customers telling me the new pills have different color and it doesn't work like before, actually made their problems worse)

I am seeking an answer from them right now and in the meantime, I need to prepare for the worse (switch company). However, my concern is that there are a bunch companies that let you private label their supplements, I noticed a lot of them having the same formulas. Does that mean most of those companies actually go through the same manufacturer? If they do then it probably won't make much difference for me to switch.

Anyone have an answer?

No, but it takes consistent, reliable and not to fuck your ass over type of manufacturer for YOU to have a dependable, scalable and profitable business

So, what's your point?

no idiot making those pills is so easy and each company make its own... how ever their formula is similar to each other and they produce same shit in different colors

one of my clients is a distributor and from what i understand (these days) most people do the manufacturing themselves. the actual chemicals come from the same places but the manufacturing can really be done by anyone.

im gonna hit you with a pm have a ? for you...

do u think making those stupid harmful pills require rocket science?
Thank you, I've always wanted to neg rep somebody.

Which company you using?

I can get you in touch with my boy Clay at Boli Naturals if you are interested.
I'd be interested with someone from Boli as well as well... Wouldn't mind seeing their prices on skin care products.

I'd doubt it, I'm going through Private Label Neutraceuticals, do you mind PMing me who's the company in question?

You almost have to be standing there watching them make the run, its your money and that is really the only way. Depending on the size of the run, if you think about it a flight and a hotel is better then getting stuck with a weak lot. Nothing better, on the other hand, then having a great product that you can stand behind.

That's what I will be doing on the next run if that's what it takes. Your company that you are dealing with have grown so fast, that is perhaps what happened, rapid growth and not minding the store, rush to production. The only real way to know what your getting is to be there or have a colleague go there to ensure quality. Watch them measure your ingredients. And not all ingredients are created equal. You have to watch out for them cutting corners and skimping on quality components to your formula. You have to have someone you can trust. Ask for references. THIS IS WHERE BIG MONEY IS BEING MADE, on the manufacturing side. Note, if Walgreens can sell bunk adderall that is no better then a caffeine pill, and shitty vitamins, then you can easily get screwed as a poignant example. When the adderall shortage went down last year, this is what people were left with and it was a universal "terrible"...how can they get away with it? Good luck!

I called a few companies that have my based/stock formula and spoke with their reps. Their reps confirmed that they do use third party manufacturer and it is very possible that some private label supplement companies go through the same manufacturer.

Paper_Chase, looking at the list of products available and some of the base information from Boli's website, I am almost positive Boli uses the same manufacturer my current company uses. If you can confirm that they have their own manufacturer, I'll love to talk to them.

I rather not name the company in public right now, because it might be manufacturer's fault not the company. I have asked them to address the issue and it has been a week they are still giving me the "We are waiting for the formulator to analyze the pill and come back with a result" type bullshit.

This is frustrating and shitloads of mental pressure, it is my business reputation on the line and there is not a whole lot I can do about it.

What is a "formulator" ?

lol, I thought they were trying to bullshit you with something and try to look like formulator is a machine or something and was gonna say to ditch them fast, but as it seems I was wrong.

Anyway, you better go and meet in person when facing those types of situations. Especially when you look for a new place or make the actual order.

Buy a bottle from yourself, when you get it send it to a lab and have it tested. Compare your CoA to the one they should be providing you on your different batches. No need to sit by and speculate, actually test it and find the answers.

Also, it sounds like there might not be any or very little quality control in place on your side and theirs. Which when selling ingestibles or topicals, that is a terrible idea.

I have my own formulator I use and get it produced in a lab. It's actually a fair amount cheaper than going through someone like Private Label Nutraceuticals (who we usually use for an initial test run before doing our own, proprietary formulation).

I second that. Go with a reputable FDA approved lab. Those third party peeps are just the middle men. You need more volume to go direct with a lab, but not much. The price you get will be so much lower and will allow you to be a lot more creative with your pricing/marketing. And a good lab can easily make you a private formulation based off of what you are using now. The only downside I've found is turnaround time. The lab can take 4-6 weeks. The private label type middle men just slap a label and ship. So you have to plan ahead of time.

Even in the highest quality of ISO certified labs and manufacturing facilities mistakes are still made. That's why bigger companies always have their own Quality department to sample products, verify they meet your intended quality, etc. This is done by a separate entity than the manufacturer.

appreciate the responses. I had a conference call with the company I am working with, they are fixing it for me right now as we speak.

Micgamb, can you PM me a few reputable FDA approved labs? much appreciated

You should realize that there is no such thing as an "FDA-approved lab" for the manufacturer of supplements. Labs like to casually throw that language around, but what they typically mean is 1) they follow GMP standards,(meh, most do, plus you can "self-report" anyways), or 2) They are approved by the FDA for pharma manufacturing (a lot of larger labs make both supplements and drugs), which still has nothing to do with being a "FDA-approved" nutritional supplement manufacturer. There is a reason every single dietary supplement out there has to include the standard FDA disclaimer about NOT being evaluated by the FDA.

Also, if you have concerns about what's actually in the pills, there are several testing labs out there that use chromatographic tests to determine the presence of components in any sample you send them. I personally use, and like, Alkemist Labs, but there are several out there that can do the same type of testing relatively inexpensively.

Hey Jardini,

Did you ever get the pills tested and find out what was actually in them?

I've often wondered what ends up in some of these pills when fuckups occur.

Cheers
