Ok so I haven't seen an idea type post in a while now and there is one in shooting the shit talking discussing the recent lack of quality posts here on WF so here goes. I don't have time to do this right now but it could probably make someone some quick cash who has the time to jump on it asap. I don't blog and haven't written things like this in a while so hope it's easy to follow my thought process when I put it in writing.

Ok so everyone who hasn't been living under a rock (I have been partying till 6am and sleeping all day at ASE and I know about it) knows that Michael Phelps is HOT right now. He's all over TV, Radio, Web, etc etc and everyone is eating it up. Well now it's out that he has a crazy diet and consumes over 12,000 calories everyday and that's a big story at the moment as he is an amazing athlete and super skinny. In fact as of this morning the term "phelps diet" has been up there on Google Trends which is where I first found it and got the idea.

So if I had the time I would go hit that terms and many other "michael phelps" related terms on google, yahoo, msn, etc with an ad that reads something like "You Don't Have to Starve Yourself To Be As Skinny As Michael Phelps" etc and design a quick lander explaining how the fatties how they can still stuff their faces and look like Michael Phelps then send them to a diet offer that cost them only $3.95 for shipping and handling that pays out $26-$32 each. There are plenty of these on every network so you shouldn't have trouble finding them and just compare LP's and see which one related to this type of diet the best. Throw up a list of what he eat everyday on the landing page (which is a lot of good tasing fairly unhealthy food) and it's an easy sell to the billions of overweight people in the diet market who are too lazy and jump from diet to diet looking for the one that let's them never change their habit and still look like everyone they see on TV.

No one is bidding on many michael phelps terms yet as I just searched for "michael phelps diet" and got only one ad on google so clicks would come very cheap and quickly. It's not something that will last forever but it has the potential to bank quickly until he cools down which sounds like it will be at least another week or two as he is going for more medals starting again today and news stories are starting to run with news of his diet. I'm sure I could get this all up in an hour and run it myself but I'm backed up from ASE as it is and have so many ideas from there to run with that are a little more long term so if you need some quick loot run with it and let me know how it went.

Not sure if that would convert, but it could be worth a shot. People searching for that term may be more looking for information about what makes up his 12,000 calories, and probably not so much of people looking to eat 12,000 calories a day and still be skinny. Some of these diet offers seem to convert anywhere though, so it could be worth launching on those terms.

Yeah well I was talking about bidding on the "phelps diet" terms really and those people must have heard about his diet and are looking for more info. Some will def be looking for the story as well so you would have to be careful to word your ad correctly to get people in that aren't only looking for the story. Either way the cheaps should be cheap enough as there is zero competition on those terms that even at a low conversion rate it could bank.

Good stuff Wayne.

My only concern with something like this is that how long would a "trend banking" like this last? Media coverage a is pretty fickle thing, and people forget about stuff about a week after it leaves the coverage.
I'm sure it's a process that can be rinsed and repeated every month, but it means keeping on top of the news.

As for Phelps himself, anyone get the feeling he can eat 12k calories a day and not be a fatty could be something to do with him being one of the most physically active people on the planet?
I mean, the dude swims something like 25 hours a week. Makes Thorpey look like a lazy bastard.

I bid on the Fred Phelps diet.

FAIL.

get ready to get slapped to $10 clicks- they've been REAL touchy about this.

Ask me how I know.
That's why you try this thing on the content network... no slaps there.

And yes, these are short term boosts only. Trying to keep up with this kind of thing would get time consuming.

Hi,

Newbie here.

Could someone please explain why the $10 slaps for this and why only ok to promote on the conten t network.

Sounds good, and I recognize the one AD that's there for Phelps Diet

It's for this domain name projectcrankwalk.com

If that's yours correct the incorrect link at the bottom.
Heck check them all.

Nothing worse that you PAYING for my click and me thinking your offer is no longer working. (because you're trying to go to an incorrectly formatted HTTP link)

I don't agree you'd get slapped (usually it's because it's not "related" to the search term, but that can easily be fix, but putting the keyword everywhere, in the AD and in the landing page, and some other content pages just to throw in some stuff)

As to the content network vs the google search, it's just that google isn't as stringent about everything having to be related. (no bidding on britney spears and then pulling them into a page that isn't about britney spears)

I see some other people capitalizing on the Phelps trend. Saw on ad on Y! Answers about Phelps and some swimming gear. Here's the LP: SpeedoUSA

If your landing page is done right you shouldn't get slapped, at least not right away or while this trend is still hot. Also, there are other places I would run this besides only adwords. Yahoo has a ton of celebrity related traffic and search terms and since it's a hot term in general right now traffic should be up everywhere on these terms.

Again I'm not doing this so if anyone does please keep us informed. I'm now starting to see some diet ads for phelps terms.

That ad you saw is a bit fucked, projectcrankwalk.com/TriSlimDiet <<< This is the display URL for that Ad, which of course, doesn't work. It's should be projectcrankwalk.com/am/TriSlimDiet.

Just in case it's someone here that's running that Ad.

seems like a good idea, im just wondering if people who are searching for the diet will actually buy, as Ive never tried somethign like this
