Quitting Coffee

5-HOUR-ENERGY.jpg

didn't work at all for me. tried them once and after drinking a whole bottle i felt like sleeping right away. weird.

You might want to invest in a smaller coffee pot. Might fix your problems without having to give up something you love.

I've had this same problem, I replaced drinking coffee with running 4 miles a day on the treadmill. You get the same amount of adrenaline, none of the negative aftereffects.

I understand what your saying about dependency (I don't like the idea of being addicted to anything) and if you can't enjoy something in moderation then maybe it is best you quit.

I quit cold turkey when I was pregnant. Not because I was pregnant (a cup or two of coffee a day is fine) but because I was vomiting and just the idea of coffee was enough to make me hurl. Anyways the withdrawls felt like I had the flu. It was awful. So yeah load up on the advil for a week.

Since you're over in Bangkok you may try some hot tea instead, green tea would be even better. I don't think you'll get addicted (hot tea doesn't have the same draw to us Americans) and it will help you do the gradual thing.

sometimes i'll only have a few sips, sometimes i down my whole tumbler, but i think the health benefits of coffee are a good reason (besides morning pick-me-up) to have a daily cup.

if not having coffee is getting in the way of productivity (even when you had a normal nights sleep) then I could see why you'd want to cold-turkey it.

I've been through this. I was fucked up to just under a week. After that I was fine. Don't substitute with lots of tea if you want this to be over more quickly.

Caffeine affects me very strangely. I'll drink a can of Dr. Pepper at noon or something and instantly feel tired out and ready for bed....then it starts to hit me at midnight when I'm trying to go to sleep.

I have now lived almost straight edge for a few years except from coffee. I was drinking about 10 ish cups per day at home plus all the starbucks lattes and whatever.

Everything is good in moderation right? Nothing beats a cup of coffee in the morning when I'm going to the gym or just - well, waking up.

Cut back to 1 cup per day broski.

I cycle off caffeine for a few weeks every few months to reset my adrenals.

But overall, it's safe for long-term use if you use the right amounts. Generally, the equivalent to 6 mg/kg bodyweight/day is what's safe:

Effects of caffeine on human health. [Food Addit Contam. 2003] - PubMed result

YMMV. But no reason to stop it forever if it makes you work better. 10 cups a day though... yeah... time to reset.

Well if you need help I can prob help and suggest some ways to cut down and kinds to drink.

I am also a Cafe/coffee shop owner but since you moved out of NA Might as well offer help. I drink good coffee and can drink real espresso and then take a nap/fall asleep.

Your first problem is that you were drinking Starbucks to begin with. You will probably be drinking the same quality if not better in Bangkok.

Hit me up if you want help.

yo i agree with the dude who said yerba mate

also take some acetyl L Carnitine in the morning - helps increase sleep quality and is a mild stimulant (i THINK for the stimulant, def. helps increase sleep quality though)

can take a small dose of tryptophan in the afternoon, helps with mood

also bacopa is legit as well as a nootropic. i think everyone on wickedfire could benefit from doing some nootropics research instead of caffeine, red bull, adderall etc. i feel like a lot of people here could be much, much "higher functioning" with them.

So has anybody here quit the lovely java juice and maybe have some trick for me on how to get that energy back. Just so I can hustle as usual because it's starting to piss me off.

M

Start your day off with eggs, whole wheat toast, some citrus, and a beer.

OK ..

thanks for all the tips,, the only one I applied is to drinks some green tea whenever I feel cravings. Which hasn't been to hard.

I'm on and 12 now and It feels like I'm back to normal levels and get work done without too much hassle.....

I cheated once yesterday evening when I was out for dinner and had half a latte, it was way too sweat anyways :)
