Racism Double Standard

1) has anyone come out and said oh by the way I AM racist? I think even skinheads and KKK members say "I"m not racist but those fuckers are asking for it when they do this..."
You're completely wrong about this. People who are actually racist are totally willing to say they're racist. Systemic racism is the stuff people deny.

"I aint no snitch" is a term I heard consistently in college. An AA male is more likely to go to jail for "not snitching" than talking. That's why there's more AA's in jail. It's not the color, or the culture.

That's not really a valid argument. There are A LOT more AA's in jail than Caucasians, it does have to do with culture.

Actually that was my point. Racism is automatically denied when they don't wear a big white pointy hat. I think we would get farther by understanding there is a problem that we all contribute too to some degree and the best way to oppose it is to ADMIT there is a problem and cognitively combat against it on a regular basis.

Discrimination by any group in the end will hurt that group. Government doesn't need to force the balance in one way or another though. If a corporation discriminates against a race or gender, they're probably going to end up missing out on some top talent just due to a bias. Their loss, and their competitors' gain.

It's the culture, not the color. If a white guy goes to jail, there are more white people that were raised to comply with the police and help when possible than there were blacks. This is seriously tortured logic. Not only is it insular, it fails to get at root causes and ignores the historical and generational effects of enslaving an entire race, then freeing them and classifying them as a life form equal to a dog or other wild beast.

Read "Arrest Proof Yourself" by Dale Carson and Wes Denham if you want to know why there are more minorities in jail than caucasians. The narrator, an ex-cop turned defense attorney, explains in very reasonable and practical terms why minorities are bigger targets for arrest.

Anyway, yeah double standards exist. It's all about context and perception. For example, imagine these scenarios:

A group of older men wear t-shirts emblazoned with protestations of love for an adolescent-looking girl from a popular movie. Perverts, right? Look at fans of Twilight or Harry Potter, just reverse the sexes. These women aren't perverts, are they?

A male teacher has sex with a 17 year old student. How awful! She was obviously taken advantage of. A female teacher has sex with a 17 year old boy. How many women automatically think the 17 year old "man" took advantage of the teacher, regardless of the law?

A married couple gets in a heated argument at home. One of them punches the other in the eye. If you automatically pictured a man doing this, you have prejudged the situation. Picture a woman punching a man. Most people would probably not think the woman deserves to be arrested for domestic violence because she's a woman, she must have been psychologically abused in the marriage, or she doesn't hit as hard, or he's a man so he can take it better.

Women are perceived as "minorities" because of wage differences, sexual domination in certain careers, etc., and some of it is true. However, they can get away with a lot of shit that men could never get away with because they are perceived as oppressed.

Men are, on average, physically bigger and better at math. This is a fact. For this reason alone, men will dominate certain fields. If women wanted to be 100% equal, the Olympics wouldn't have separate competitions for the two sexes.

There is no such thing as "equal." It's all perception, advantage, disadvantage, and context. You deal with the situation you have pragmatically. You can try to make changes if you want, but the intertia of what exists now is very heavy and hard to counter.

Change can and does happen, obviously. The heroes that people look up to, Abraham Lincoln, MLK, Susan B. Anthony, etc., were not lone defenders of liberty. These icons of change were representative of deep currents of thought and rebellion that existed long before they stood up and became the touchstone for change history records them as. Yes, they were brave people, but they had a support infrastructure with unsung heroes and years of people who thought as they did, paying the price of scorn and abuse from a majority, or even a vocal minority. (Like dumbfuck prudes who think pictures of women with boobs under a C-cup encourage pedophilia.)

I have a quick joke if you don't mind :)

Whats the difference between a black man and batman?

Batman can go out at night without robin.

It always makes me curious when I hear people state "black people are oppressed" as if it is a generally accepted fact. How exactly are black people oppressed? This systemic racism that people say still exists...show me.

The majority of the people living below the poverty line in this country are white (almost twice as many poor whites than poor blacks). Yet poor white people are perceived to have all of these advantages so there are no programs to help them. If anything, I would say the only truly oppressed people in this country is poor, white men. Everyone else has special laws and special interest groups looking out for them.

Divide the citizens into classes, then play them off each other. A divided America is weaker than a united one.

Racist, sexist, homophobic, ageist - what do all these have in common? They're intended to create fault lines among us - by age, gender, race, sexual orientation, etc... Don't blame black people, as tempting as it is. Blame those who designed it to be this way and are influencing our cultural institutions to aggravate and exacerbate the tensions along these fault lines.

Principles, beliefs, and ideologies are the only real differences that should matter.

Whites can be proud by being good to people. I don't mind that kind of white pride.

Heck, I'd join the KKK if it helped minorities.

This is the first time I agree with you.

Historically, many nations/groups of humans found it advantageous to have more than one class of people. A class that rules and controls the bulk of resources, and a lower class that provides the bulk of labor.

Everything else is the aftermath of such systems. If you interchanged the color of the people, let's say blacks were the oppressors for the last 400 years and whites were slaves, everything else would have unfolded exactly the same way. There is no difference between the races, except for historically-related issues. Until we get through all that, and undo the problems that have rippled through society because of it, we can't ignore it. But it shouldn't matter "in a perfect world". One day people will look back and consider us ignorant and foolish.
