Rant: I hate Rich People

people need to start distinguishing between self-made rich and ill-gotten rich. There's a great book called Free Lunch about politicians, companies and other 'distinguished' types that have used the political system for their gain. These favors, handouts, tax breaks, and other policy-makings divert huge amounts of taxpayer money into the pockets of certain few.

Overall this money is taken away from schools, roads, etc - Its really fucked up and you can't compare these scumbags to anybody who makes money with sales. No matter how useless your product or how shady the marketing- the customer opted in.

But taxes are something you have to pay. you also pay for it when your city can't afford proper maintenance, can't build parks, doesn't have enough resources, etc. State and city budgets get strained when so many millions of dollars are diverted to individuals, groups, and companies.

The common good suffers when the percentage of wealth keeps going to a concentrated few, and when money is diverted from taxes, or via taxbreaks, to individuals who are friends of policy makers. There have been many that have exploited the public treasury.

the obvious and clear divide to ultra-rich and growing-poor in america doesn't really help your average entrepreneur in the long run. the less money middle America and the poor have at their disposal, the less they have to spend on our stupid shit. No matter how stupid the shit- marketers and entrepreneurs are at the mercy of policy makers and those truly in power.

Its not just taxes, its job loss and foreclosures. Massive fucking banks and people who shape policy make changes that have sweeping effects, then the country gets fucked and everyone but the super-wealthy suffers.

btw i didnt even read the op. yeah I blame Bush.
So, so truthy, Barman.

One unmentioned special interest group is the public service employees making six figures for doing nothing (or almost), front loading their pensions and looking forward to retiring at 80% of their pay. This is bankrupting local governments from coast to coast, and in my case I pay the second highest property taxes in the country. Even with the billions they collect, the county I live in (Nassau) can't close its deficit.

The reason is the lavish patronage bestowed upon the politically connected cronies who show up for a "job" while performing no services. They work hard all day taking their 3 hour lunches and chatting with the other cronies for $100,000+ per year. There are cops here making $150,000 in this low crime county, LIRR ticket punchers make over $100,000, teachers make over $100,000 and the many, many superintendents of schools make $300,000+. This is the new "normal" for public employees, while counties are cutting back on services residents actually need like parks and getting potholes filled.

I have been reading a forum that has the very same people on the public dole boasting all about their spoils.

You can thank the municipal employees' and teachers' unions for this (not Bush, for once). All your tax dollars are belong to them.

Screw the OP's welfare mentality. I have to sell shit to make money to pay the damn taxes. If I make money from marketing, it's because I put in a lot of sweat learning and testing and doing stuff I don't feel like doing. I'm gonna grab as much as I can because people opt in willingly, not because their corrupt government is forcing them to pay!

lol @ 10,000/year in Canada, my 16 y/o sister makes more than that working at minimum wage, and we have the lowest minimum wage in Canada.

Troll job was too obvious..

Compared to most people on this forum, I am poor. Yet I would never imagine blaming that on others. OP, you are a fucking idiot. Get off your fucking ass and start working, the only person you can always blame is YOU. Stop fucking complaining bitch.

You know, you hear so many stories of rich people donating billions to charities, I think it's bull. I've been poor all my life with just enough money to meet basic needs and never received anything from charities. Where do all the billions of dollars go? Education? Schools? Health? Hospitals? Sounds to me it's simply the rich paying their taxes in different way. The governments get the money and the real poor, the bum with no life in that shabby apartment or that family of four in the rented house that's nearly crumbling with no vehicle never get any help from rich strangers to get off their feet and therefore struggle all the time make ends meet. They can't get a job because they don't have an education. They can't get an education because it takes money. They don't have money because they don't have job. It's a vicious cycle.

Here in Canada, I only get $10,000 a year compared to the average Joe who gets $30,000 a year and rich people who get more than $100,000 a year. The disparity is too great. It wouldn't hurt the rich guy making $100,000 a year to give $40,000 to four of the people making $10,000 a year now would it? The fact is the poor need at least $20,000 a year to make it. The poor need to a way to start enjoying life too. If the poor had more they would make good placements with their money, get an education, get a job and join the middle class. Instead you got rich people with so much money they don't know what to do with it, except for expanding their empire of wealth and get richer and richer. It's soo much easier for rich person to get richer when really a better way would be for the poor people to have an easy way to make a decent amount.

The problem with our society is that in order to make money you have to spend money. When there's no money to start with, and worse, if you don't have an education because your family was too poor to keep you happy in school forcing you to drop out, as in my case, then you have a problem starting out. It shouldn't be that way. There should be a way to make education free but it's not free. Education costs money. Governments would rather use the rich people's not so hard earned money to build a stronger military, invest in business that are already making a decent amount and paying health care people (Doctors are the highest paid people in the world and yet here we are giving to lots of money for simply prescribing medications). Here in Canada we have the Sun card which pays all medical expenses. It takes another similar which should pay our education. That would really help people. Because once people have an education, then it's so much easier find a job.

Yet governments don't do that. It's filled old wealthy people who don't like the poor, complain because the they have pay taxes to them. They only care about their oil and gas prices, and the stock market...pathetic. Oil and gas prices...lol...Growing up my family never had a car and even today I still don't have a vehicle. I laugh when they woory about that. C'mon, we should be more worried about the rising FOOD prices. Paying an average of $3.50 for a one person meal is just too expensive. Unless you eat ramon noodles, the rest of the food prices are so high. Some say, well, eat mac and cheese, it takes milk and butter too, hot dogs takes buns, so when you add up the costs of food it's just too expensive. Rich people still don't get it. Never will.

Really I don't think anybody should earn more than $100,000 dollars a year. Anything more should be redistributed to the poor. It sickens me to hear rich people complain about at that suggestion.

you see what I did there?

This is unique to Long Island, where I grew up, and it was a nice place to grow up BECAUSE of how good the schools are, and how safe it is. Also, teachers only make 100K AFTER TENURE (i.e. several to 10 years). Same for cops. Entry level salaries for these position are SHITE, and increase slowly with experience, just like any other job.

If we don't pay public service employees a livable salary we won't get qualified people. Griping about how cops and teachers are overpaid is absurd, they eventually work their way up to a livable salary for the place where they live and work. My parents annual property taxes alone are equal to nealy 1/4-1/3 of annual entry level cop or teacher's salary. Long Island ain't cheap. You want smart kids, good schools, and nice, safe neighborhoods you pay for it. The problem with Long Island is the property taxes...

I know there are a lot of libertarians on this board, and I used to be one myself until I came to my senses and realized that a society without a social welfare system and proper funds channeled to education and municipal services is an UGLY sight reminiscent of the developing world. If you don't believe me, just visit India or Thailand, or any place where there isn't public education, and disabled people lay limbless in gutters begging for change. Trust me, you don't want that shit in your back yard. I cringe whenever I think of how much I pay in taxes, but I wouldn't want to go the other direction!

The patronage and corruption in LI government make the shadiest black hats look like pikers. The county is faced with a yawning deficit, and is about to be taken over by a state authority. School scores have tanked, even though we pay the highest school taxes in the country.

The unions are running taxpayers into the ground, and their influence has been ruinous. Your nostalgia for LI is not based on any kind of reality we live with here.
