I know there are some real estate people on WF. Any of you have suggestions or tips for getting access to IDX data? I've found some sites thru the googz but they look like VARs that would rather try and sell me some templated website or iframe their results. I'm looking for preferably API/REST access or worst case CSV or XML via FTP.

Thanks.

You're going to need to go directly to the MLS to get the data in those formats. Most MLS's require you to be an actual "IDX Vendor" and then they have their monthly/yearly/quarterly data fee for access to the data.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Do you know a ball park figure for monthly access are we talking closer to $500/mo, $5000/mo, $15000/mo....?

Lead gen play in a specific market.

I have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, but what about scraping behind a buncha proxies?

I would still need some sort of interface into an MSL database. And scraping is fragile, if I can find a pay service that is reasonable, comprehensive and stable I'd pay for it.

Each MLS is different, but they're mostly in the $500-$2000 a month range.

You have any friends in the R/E business in that market? If so, it'd be cheaper to have them sign up for an IDX like Diverse Solutions and let you use it for whatever you're doing. That's also against the terms of service, but whatever... that's between you and them.

I use this one. Only $30/month after $150 or so setup fee. It works with a Wordpress plugin.

IDX access is regulated on a local basis by the MLS region. Most large metro areas will have their own MLS association that makes the rules.

If you're doing it locally , you might be able to get IDX access, in my specific area, only brokers are allowed a IDX feed (One per company).

If you're wanting to do it nationwide you either need to scrape realtor.com , trulia or zillow. Scraping realtor.com is very much against their TOS so beware of potential issues with doing so.

Yeah, I'm learning that realtors try and keep that data locked down pretty good, apparently for my area I have to go through the North Texas Real Estate Info Systems. I tried to hustle access to it out of Diverse Solutions by saying I was getting my wife's site setup so it would be ready once she took the exam but they shut that shit down pretty quick :)

Scraping may end up being the way to go. blech

Yeah, we Realtors tend to be protective of the data that we create, that then gets turned around and sold back to us by all these shady lead gen companies... ;)

as an extension of the OP question is there any service that anyone knows of that will provide the sold data? Maybe even a title company? I would need to differentiate between trustee sales and retail sales (MLS or Non-MLS) and simple deed transfers.

I was going through this the other day - maybe you can find something worthwhile in it.

Real Estate API list

I saw that, looks pretty handy (at least it will once I find a friend who actually has a license and gets me access), question for you, are the listings the plugin generated on the fly or does it write them to the wordpress database?

They're generated on the fly and not iframed. However, you can specify a MLS number if you want to specifically promo a listing but it's still pulled on the fly. You also have the option of selecting things like price range, bedrooms, city, etc. to create a custom list of postings.
