And to the guys who didn't get a degree and are thus going to hate, I'm sorry but if you try this and you're self-employed making <100k, 9 times out of 10, you just look like a bum.
There is a difference between getting into an ivy league school, acing everything and then deciding this is a waste of my most valuable time and then leaving as compared to putting it to the side because of bullshit excuses. Obviously 98/100, it's easy to see who is bullshitting when they say they don't need a degree.
The only bullshit excuse is college. College is a way of procrastination. You are putting off what you need to be doing (reading books, discovering deals, action) and instead wasting both time and money in a classroom filled with a bunch of other morons that weren't quite able to figure out how to get it done on their own. If you can't figure it out before school what makes you think you're going to figure it out after school?
I have bad news for college students. Entrepreneurship and investing don't have a nice little road map laid out for you like college. It's not as easy as simply paying your money and then following the little road map that has been provided for you. It's not a game of memorization or procedure. It is a game of innovation, creativity and perseverance. College doesn't teach this. This is why all the real investors hate school. The people who like school are the managers who manage companies that they didn't create. So have at it, go to school, get your degree and then come work for me. Because having a degree and a low-level college education is going to do very little when it comes down to actually planning out your investment strategy. Maybe if you're lucky you will be buying mutual funds in a declining dollar. Maybe they will teach you to buy for appreciation. Maybe they will teach you the importance of good credit.
You have to think on your feet and go against the crowd. College can't possibly teach this. Only you can teach it to yourself. School is for people who are afraid to face reality and need somebody to hold their hand -- all the antithesis to investing. School is for children. If you're a child you should go to school. If you want to make money for someone else you should go to school. If you're a coward you should go to school. Otherwise get to work.
