Apparently eTrade is selling all their savings accounts to DiscoverBank as of an email they sent out 2 hours ago, which means it's time for a new set of savings accounts.

Any recommendations? I was looking at ING or HSBC.

Thankfully, to date - no issues. I've been with them for about a year since moving my accounts from ING Direct.

I make weekly transfers to them online with no hassles.

Dwight,

Any reasons you moved away from ING Direct? They seem to be my #1 right now.... just curious.

Charles Schwab has been great. Free incoming wires and good service.

I don't keep any cash in the acct though so not sure about rates.

Dwight,

Any reasons you moved away from ING Direct? They seem to be my #1 right now.... just curious.

I had a checking account at ING Direct along with several savings accounts. My Wamu account was feeding into my ING Direct checking (since there are very few ING Direct ATM's to make deposits at).

When I moved my accounts from Wamu, it caused a clusterfuck at ING Direct when an auto-debit tried to pull money from my checking at ING with backup funding at Wamu, thus hitting me with a $25.00 NSF fee.

I called ING Direct and calmly explained the situation, and how I had never had an NSF fee on ANY account, etc. and the customer service rep was a total asshole. I asked to speak to a Supervisor, who apologized, but said they didn't have the authority to wave a stupid $25.00 fee.

Long story short, they wouldn't budge and I said, "Fuck you guys. I referred all of my clients to you when I owned a mortgage company, and over $25.00 you're going to lose me as a client. Go fuck yourselves." and I closed all my accounts.

All this was MY fault, but the fact that they wouldn't try to help me pissed me off enough to change banks.

How long between a transfer and funds availability? With my ING Direct account if I were transfer money today it wouldn't be available until sometime in 2012 after the angry mayan gods have destroyed the earth.

I recommend USAA if your are in the military or a dependent. I can't say much about any other banks.
