One of my current front-end developers/designers just quit today due to personal issues, so I'll have to search for a new designer right now, quickly!

Please give me the contact info of a great developer/designer that can work with me on this project!!!

Cheers.

Hi Cystomatic,

I'm a dev, and (unfortunately) new to the forum. Hope that won't be a problem. Please send me details regarding the project. I can start right away.

Thanks.

What am searching for is a front-end developer that can also do the design work.

Derp.

Good reminder as to why I should NEVER, EVER, EVER again consider doing contract / freelance work. End up with people telling you, "what are you talking about? i know people awesome at both, design and development".

No, you don't. Even if you think you do, you don't. You can be mediocre at both, but not awesome at both.

One of the trickiest parts of getting seriously involved in freelance dev work is that everyone knows someone who "can do what you do".

"Oh, I have a nephew who said he could build this for $300"

"Oh, my daughter's boyfriend does this stuff for fun on the weekend"

HAHAHHA WELL HIRE THEM AND HAVE FUN THEN FUCK ME AMIRITE

They're out there, but if they are truly talented, they aren't going to be picking up random jobs off the WF STS section for $1-4k. They're running their own businesses or working for high street agencies making upwards of 6 figures a year.

I'm sorry, but you can't. You can be good at both, but you can't be excellent at both. They're just two totally different mindsets. It's like a structural engineer who's amazing at his job, is also an amazing painter.

It just doesn't mix. You can't spend your day going through loads of exact specifications, going through every millimeter of every inch of a new skyscraper you're working on, then come home and paint some stunning artwork that gets displayed at galleries. The two mindsets required for those jobs are totally different.

Unless the definition of a "front end developer" has changed, we're talking about knowing HTML/CSS/Javascript. Any decent designer that does web work should know how to do this stuff. Many do it exceptionally well.
