So apparently my isp doesn't like my choice of downloading activities and sent me my first slap on the wrist email the other day.
I should have purchased a private VPN long ago, but just never got around to it.
Anyone recommend a good one? I'd rather get input from you guys, rather than the Top 5 Private VPN review sites.

mainly looking for something to use with uTorrent

if it's mainly to be used for torrenting, every VPN is going to be slow and annoying. i'd just go with a seedbox. i run one off my production server and rtorrent but there's good paid options out there

Can someone technically minded tell me the risks of using these services in terms of them sniffing passwords etc?

Hidemyass really sucks. Not only because they rat on their users, but also speed wise. I've been using bolehvpn for over a year now with no issues for 85$/year. Current iptorrent freelech access is also nice.

It's nice to run an SSH tunnel to a VPS provider, giving a SOCKS proxy to link your browser to. Less likely to be flagged as a VPN by any services, and can be easily turned off when not needed.

Any good recommendations for a good (paid) seedbox?

www.feralhosting.com - they had some issues migrating their servers from London to NL, but all is good now and they offered compensation against downtime. Private trackers + seedbox FTW.

(On that note, has anybody got invites for thevault? I've got great ratios on several trackers plus the odd invite to offer back. Much love in advance to anybody that can help.)

If you are torrenting I have had good experiences with BTGuard.

I was using VyprVPN from Golden Frog but had a bad experience. They used to be my Usenet provider Giganews so I thought I could trust them for anonymous downloads, the e-mail from HBO about me downloading Game of Thrones said otherwise, funny enough I was in Japan at the time too.

HideMyAss was good back in the day for checking out competitors' ads in other countries. But yeah they ratted out on their users which basically killed their brand.

OP, this link will definitely help you: Which VPN Services Take Your Anonymity Seriously? 2013 / 2014 | TorrentFreak

Another issue to keep in mind is that there are patent trolls out there who make a business of harvesting IPs of torrent users and then suing them en masse. Mostly happens when people torrent porn (as people would rather settle than put up with the bad publicity and defend their names in court). So using a VPN is an excellent idea even if you haven't gotten a letter from an ISP yet.

Thanks. Yeah, I read through that site before posting, just don't true many review sites, which is why I'm asking here for first hand experience.
I use torrents for movies mosly so hopefully not too much of an issue regarding your last point.
