Recommend me a private vpn

If you are torrenting I have had good experiences with BTGuard.

I was using VyprVPN from Golden Frog but had a bad experience. They used to be my Usenet provider Giganews so I thought I could trust them for anonymous downloads, the e-mail from HBO about me downloading Game of Thrones said otherwise, funny enough I was in Japan at the time too.

Is that recent experience. Are their speeds pretty decent?

I have a current BTGuard account yeah. Absolutely no bandwidth issues I have pulled 3mbs down which was my max on the connection. Can't vouch for fiber or anything more than cable internet.

The VPN notice I got maybe 3 months ago? I guess HBO was on the torrent and logged all of the IPs. The letter I got was from Golden Frog tell me about the letter they got because of my activity. Since it was a warning notice nothing happened. But since they bothered to inform me it meant they probably would have given up my details if asked.

After that I switched to BTGuard and I have been grabbing mainstream stuff on public trackers. No letters, no notices, nada so I can only assume its working as advertised.

Thanks. Yeah, I read through that site before posting, just don't true many review sites, which is why I'm asking here for first hand experience.
I use torrents for movies mosly so hopefully not too much of an issue regarding your last point.

I agree. Like many things in life, you really can't foresee the worst case scenario with these VPN companies - they say they don't keep logs but that's like the "I'm not a liar!" type paradox.

Best bet would be to go one that's domiciled in a country that has strong privacy laws and isn't a puppet of United States. One of the VPNs allow you to physically mail them cash (this was a while ago, may be they accept bitcoins now?) which adds an extra level of anonymity.

Again, nothing is 100% guaranteed foolproof so keep that in mind while you sail across the high seas as a digital buccaneer!

Good luck bro!

When you find a suitable VPN, the forum has a member who sells dedicated private proxies and offers reliable support.

Does anyone have a suggestion as where to turn to funnel all tragic through the VPN on a router level? I haven't looked into this much yet, but it's going to become a necessary evil. Isp's are already beginning to throttle netflix traffic and this will likely become more common as people continue streaming more and more content.

Any ideas on forcing all network traffic through a VPN?

After seeing this thread, I decided to try out a seedbox for torrenting shows/movies. I went with whatbox.ca (this exact plan https://whatbox.ca/plans/heat) and was literally live and torrenting through the rutorrent interface (basically a web version of utorrent) in 10 minutes. Its as simple as copying the torrent url from any tracker (supports both public and private) into the web ui and works exactly like utorrent for those familiar with that. The speed on the download side is ridiculous - downloaded a 400meg show in 30 seconds - and the upload speed was about 500kb/s (through SCP to get the torrent to my comp securely - they have a web interface that you can download the file locally as well, but havent tried that). So all in all comparable to what I'd see at home downloading over cable. Pretty smooth experience all around and for $18 a month a great piece of mind given the isps tightening up w regards to this traffic.

Most routers already have options for this, just log into your router and set it up.

Under what option? Is there a specific thing I am looking for? Been in and out of that admin and not really sure what it could be.

Edit: Maybe this is the excuse I have been waiting for to flash to DD-WRT

Won't they just throttle the VPN traffic too? We need to stop waiting for Google to save us and start supporting net neutrality initiatives, because ISP's like Comcast are only going to get more out of control.

You can upload the .torrent files via sFTP to /watch to start the downloads, too. Saves fiddling with the web interface which is especially handy if you're downloading a few bits at once.

Also, because FTP builds the files from the beginning you can start watching straight away, providing you have sufficient download speeds & it's a straightforward media file.

Seedbox and then use WinSCP to download all your files through sFTP, your ISP can't see a thing but encrypted data. You can max out your connection when downloading from your server and don't have to deal with a shitty vpn.

I created a small list of seedbox providers for you

Jameel, how does this protect your server IP though? Say I want to install this on one of my SEO dedis - wouldn't the server IP still be exposed?

updated 2014 torrentfreak VPN review list

Which VPN Services Take Your Anonymity Seriously? 2014 Edition | TorrentFreak

be careful people. you DONT want to be using a VPN that logs or has info they can turn over to LE, NSA, DoJ, FBI, ISP, MPAA, RIAA, etc. - Stay safe!

Be even more careful and wary of these lists and companies claims.

I worked for Astrill so I can tell you the claims attributed to them on that page are mostly bullshit.
1) We do not keep logs
Reality) False. They do keep logs. With reguard to http traffic, they log every single single page loaded for every customer using their VPN servers. They log your account number, the requested url, the time of the request. This information is kept for months at a time and then thrown into a journal system.
2) We do not disclose your customer information
Reality) Mostly true. Astrill is mostly concerned with closing the accounts of people who abuse their network. If anyone asks they will say they can't identify what customers are doing, but in reality is Astrill is constantly scanning through their logs looking for people running scripts which hit google/facebook (or any other site) too frequently, and then those accounts are disabled.
3) We may enable logs on a server in case of network abuse
Reality) False. Http requests are logged on all servers and that data is kept for a minimum of three months. Always. When I asked about this discrepancy between what they say publicly and what they do privately I was told we would do whatever it takes to run the company (even if that includes deceiving the customers).
4) We do not store any files, we provide IP transit only. Therefore, we can’t fulfill any "take down(s)"
Reality) False. Astrill receives a whole bunch of take down notices every single day and then blocks users from reaching those destinations. One of the uses of the logs they keep is to locate copyright troll IPs. We developed scripts to compare take down requests (which include our offending torrent IP addresses and time stamps) to locate the trolls, and then block our clients from connecting to them. We still did a lot of take downs, but by locating copyright troll IPs (by running scripts on our logs) we were able to block many IPs.
5) The majority of users use shared IP space therefore we are not able to identify the customer
Reality) False. We knew exactly who registered what accounts and logs every one's activity. We can and do identify your account. We close accounts each day for abuse. We were working on a system to throw abusive accounts onto one server. I don't know what progress was made in this endeavor.
6) P2P activity is allowed on many of our servers
Reality) True. These are the servers marked with a star in the connection tools we provide.
