On another note. This jump was epic. Have you seen the man's pictures on Google. He looks like he's ready to start doing something dangerous.

He said his mask was fogging therefore he could not see his altimeter and at that speed it was too risky to not be able to see it.

12 seconds at terminal velocity = ~3000 feet more

3000 feet more and that shit gets seriously risky fast.

E.g. what if the parachute doesn't open and he has to use the back-up?

Um he was only falling around 120mph (terminal velocity) when he popped the chute - just like any other jump

I didn't hear about his mask fogging up - obviously if he couldn't see his altimeter that's a good fucking time to pop the chute lol

That assumes he was in the standard position with arms and legs spread out. If for some reason he got into a head or foot down position his speed could have been much higher. I think the record freefall speed for a normal jump is somewhere just over 300mph.
