I got an email today....

VeriSign, the central registry for .COM/.NET domains will be raising their prices starting on July 1, 2010 0:00 EST.

WTF... time to renew :\

Not sure how much they are raising their wholesale price to..

eNom is raising top tier reseller price from $7.95 to $8.50.

Motherfucking Verisign.

Only the US Government would sign a contract with a company (Verisign) allowing for 5 price increases (I think) in 5 years. Especially when the price on domain names should be going DOWN.

OLD Tier Pricing New Tier Pricing
PREMIER $7.95 $8.50
VOLUME $8.95 $9.50
BASIC $9.95 $10.50
ALTERNATIVE $10.95 $11.50

oddly enough, Godaddy called me 2 days ago about renewing my domains and related shit.

Not once did they tell me they were raising prices, which would have made me act quicker on this, instead they try to get me to renew all of my 100+ domains just so I could get their cancelation dates the same date and how they have a special coupon I could use if I did it today to save big bucks and also save more doing multi year discount.

Just tell me your looking to make some money from me before the price goes up, I would have been much happier and actually acted on the impulse buy that way cause I knew I was really saving some moola

FYI, the Registrars don't like it when you renew before the price increase. Because I think they pay (or maybe their accounting handles) for each domain on a monthly basis.

So they may get some temporary cash, but they have to pay the higher rates for your domains in future months once the price goes up.

Of course, the GoDaddy sales people probably don't care about that, their commission is probably just on any sales / renewal activity.
