i like getafreelancer a whole lot better. the rentacoder site is so ugly and slow it's funny (since they're whole business is about software development)

GetAFreelancer don't protect you against bad guys. If you have problem with your coder/buyer - GetAFreelancer stay away.

Especially "Marketing", "Training", "Page / Site Design" and "Search Engine Optimization" categories. You can all these categories with many requests for proposals at:

Hi wickedDUDE,

I'm Rod Smith from Rent a Coder. I'm sorry to hear about the problems you're having and am here to help you.

If you tell me your RAC userid or the URL of your project I can check into it's status for you.

When you post a bid request, a human has to approve it to filter out people posting "bad" things like requests for virsues, illegal software, etc.. It did tell you about this both on the screen when you posted your bid request and via a seperate email. I can send you another copy if you'd like.

You can reach someone 7 days a week at facilitator (at) rentacoder.com (dot) com...or you can call the phone # (also 7 days a week) if you ever need any help.

I really like RentACoder and highly recommend it. I used it for a project this summer (hired a guy from Spain for a Ruby On Rails project) and will use it again for a lot of upcoming work.

Granted, the interface is a little clunky (and you can only upload .zip files to the developer which is a pain), but it gets the job done and everyone I dealt with at RentACoder was great.

Hi Rod,

I appreciate you getting back to me. My account was approved a few days ago. I just found the signup process a little confusing. When I finished 6-last step I was not brought to any notification page. And I also don't like it how when I email a customer service rep, and they reply -- if I want to reply back to them I have to go to the contact form on your web site to do so, rather than simply just hitting reply, which is a bit of an inconvenience. But other than that my account has been approved, and now I am just in the process of trying to find a coder.

Thanks.

I've only used rentacoder once. It was a small feature on a site I wanted developed but didn't want to waste time on it since I had the rest of the site to do. I picked one of the cheaper bids(the company was new on the site and said they would do it cheap for the rep). The developer kept delaying and delaying and about a month into a 2 week(max, I could have done it myself in a couple days if not so busy) project, I checked there page again and they had like 3 bad reviews for never delivering.

I must say RAC was very good about cancelling the project for me and getting my money back. Haven't had a need for them since but would probably use them again. I think they need to do more about monitoring the bids though, I noticed certain companies bidding on every project no matter what it was (ie. need a kernel driver developed) with stuff like "We are expert php/mysql team and can give you best price!". People blanketing the site with false bids like that should be removed IMHO.
