He is - THE CACTUS!
I've got to say, props to Aniston. Her predicament is shitty, but it's given me a lot of food for thought, and something I thought of in regards to her arsehole husband could easily be used online:
Character Assasination

There's a bunch of sites for reviewing (ex)partners, putting in enough of their details n what have you that they can easily be found so future partners can avoid the mistakes you made.
These sorts of sites sprang from just regular old scam/fraud watch style ideas... and there's even more of those sites online.

Let's say you have a competitor in your niche, and for whatever reason you can't outrank them. If you can't get above them, why not drag them down below your level instead, and submit the site that they have on offer to a whole bunch of scam/fraud alert sites.
A lot of those sites are fairly old and have good PR, like ScamBusters, as well... So why not dick around with some nasty anchor text while you're at it.

I should point out that you may wish to remain slightly anonymous while doing this, so it might be a good idea to get a disposable email account, and do this through proxies/TOR. :anon.sml:

And if that's not enough for you, get one of those cheap spamming programs from a place like DP, and spread their site around to a few thousand PR0 link farms, splogs and other worthless pages.

So, thoughts people?

You might get them rankings for bad keywords or keywords other than their main focus. But you are still giving them link juice from reputable sites.

I think it would help them more than hurt them.

If I was to do that I would make sure they will not get a real dofollow link.

Even bad press is good press for SEO link juice.

You just made Baby Jesus cry.
I think it will work despite the SEO link juice, but it works only for branded/brick-and-mortar businesses. Most people on WF are competing with anonymous affiliates who don't have an identity to assassinate. Something that's really easy to do though, is to take your competitors' afflink and spam it or violate the merchant's conditions - if enough people do this then the industry will die...

Drake: True, it may help them get to the #1 spot... but what if spots #2, #3, #4 and #5 are all saying it's a big ass scam? If they're not pushing by PPC, but rather going for that #1 SERP spot, that's gotta hurt, right?

Zany: I was thinking more along the lines of people that buy PLR stuff and attempt to SEO the crap out of a site. But I think I see what you mean.

Ah well... was just idle musings.
But I'm wondering, has anyone's here actually tried some online character assassination before?

I believe SlightShadySEO was talking about this a little while ago in some thread. Maybe his SEO Q/A thread, IDK. He was talking about "Negative SEO" to get them to lose ranking.

If there is NO way you will ever be able to outrank the number one spot and you are around spot 2 you could try and get like a ripoff report type site to rank number 2 pushing you to spot 3, saying that site is scam blah blah then the user searches again and goes to the next site (yours). Profit.
