As of this morning roughly 80 million Google Place pages worldwide have been automatically converted into 80 million Google+ Local pages, according to Google’s Marissa Mayer. It’s a dramatic change (for the better) though it will undoubtedly disorient some users and business owners.
Static Places now give way to more dynamic Google+ Local pages. Google’s star ratings are also being replaced by the Zagat 30-point rating scale (for user reviews as well).

Google Places Is Over, Company Makes Google+ The Center Of Gravity For Local Search

interesting/big move!

I dont see what the hell they are talking about - all of my places pages still show up for local search - is this being staggered across niches?

Not really that surprising... they obviously can't compete with Facebook and steal the average user away BUT they can force a business to use Google+ because what choice do they really have?

Exactly....then let the businesses recruit the users.

Shit this will totally change the way I find old phone numbers for pizza places and insurance companies that have websites suspiciously similar to leadpoint squeeze forms. FML.

We got 2 negative reviews....can't delete em.

Sounds like a short-term business plan to neg-bomb competitors.

You can't do anything with place page reviews at the moment. Pain the in buttox.

I hope it doesn't take more than a week to convert the place pages, can't do anything with mine at the moment

Smart move. However, I don't see how this move is going to help them much. Yes, people will join now so they can list their business. And people will join to leave reviews on shit. These things still put them about 700b light years behind facebook. Maybe they have lowered their goal and now just want to beat Yelp?

At this point, the desperation and literal shoving of G+ down people's throats is kind of getting embarrassing. I never thought I'd see Google acting like some crazy ex-girlfriend. Just fucking stop already, what are you doing? Stop embarrassing yourself with this horrible product nobody wants...jesus fucking christ.

I'm guessing this move is directed more at Groupon and LivingSocial then Facebook. It's all about their Offers platform I think.

I foresee this being more so for negative reviews. I have yet to meet a human that is going to jump through all the hoops needed to leave a positive review for their dry cleaner, plumber or lawn care guy. Sure they may have done an excellent job... but the LEGIT reviews are going to be negative ones.

Thats where reputation management services come in :)

probably, but google doesn't give a fuck if it's neg or positive reviews
