There's a bill like this being debated right now here locally in Minnesota. I 100% support it. It's not like we're debating crack or heroin. It's fucking weed for gods sake.
I am not a marijuana user. And I do believe it's medical usages are questionable. But I also don't care. Tobacco, Alcohol and Caffeine are all mind altering drugs; why not throw marijuana in there with the rest of them? It's probably closer to alcohol in the sense that it should be illegal to drive while 'high', etc. But really there are so many benefits to legalizing it, it's crazy that it's not already law.
1. Decriminalize otherwise law-abiding citizens that smoke weed
2. Free up law-enforcement to pursue things that actually matter
3. 'Safer' ways to smoke as it would now be formalized (like cigerettes)
4. Tax the hell out of it, like they do cigarettes
I could go on. Again - I don't smoke and haven't since my kid was born, and even then it was only occasionaly. But I'm 100% for it. Go Ron.

The use has been decriminalised in Australia, but possession is still a crime.
South Australia, our most progressive state on the issue, has just gotten a hardliner in as state Premiere (Governor), and now made it illegal to sell smoking implements that are traditionally associated with it, so hookas and bongs.
Considering that anyone that's passed year 8 knows you can make a bong from a coke bottle and a garden hose, but usually doesn't know that the plastic fumes can actually kill you, it's a bloody stupid move.
Oddly enough, pipes are still legal if sold through a tobacconist...

Ya it was like 70% to 30%. The guy running against him was another Republican, a total Neo-Con. He supported Bush, McCain, and their endless wars. He said Rps views on ending the wars was hurting the District.
He got smacked down hard. The only people that were donating to his campaign were mostly his family. Sad.
