[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tstpu5mDEI"]Ron Paul Highlights in 9/12/2011 Presidential Debate - YouTube[/ame]

watch the entire video.

i haven't been much of a ron paul supporter because i didn't listen to any of his speeches/debates, but now i am.

Let me give an example of what he says.

He says "People in the U.S. have this wrong view that the entire muslim world hates us because of our freedom and peace. We establish bases in over 180 countries, how would you feel if China did the same to us what we do to other nations?"
then people start booing.
seriously, that couldn't be any further from the truth.
sometimes i'm fucking amazed at the stupidity of humans.

nobody wants to admit that our foreign policy could have any negative effects. they act like when Ron Paul is blaming them for the attacks when he points that out.

his blog posts was very easy to understand, and Santorum took it out of context, as he was clearly trying to capitalize on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 like any other scumbag does.

Unfortunately he also looks like a frail corpse. People probably won't vote for someone who looks like their face is going to fall off at any moment - it didn't work well for McCain either.

People didn't vote for McCain because he was spewing and defending GWB rhetoric. Obama got most of his vote (at least from the morons I know) because he (lied) and said (more or less) he would end the wars. McCain said he would continue the wars and the spending of GWB. I've never heard anyone I know or otherwise say they didn't vote for McCain because he looks frail. That's ridiculous.

The only reason Ron Paul might not get the nomination is because the media is still pushing the he's unelectable BS. However if he wins Iowa (or even comes in close 2nd) then this goes right out the window and he could sweep the other states. It also makes MSM look retarded and lose credibility. Double win.

The biggest hurdle for Paul will be the public's ignorance regarding economics and liberty, and how both are intertwined. Most folks seem unable to run their own household budgets much less understand economic law. Moreover, they have spent the majority of their lives growing so accustomed to being slaves to the state that they don't know what freedom means.

Citizens believe:

- they have the right to take that which others produce (e.g. taxes).
- they have the right to force others to work for them (e.g. "free" health care).
- they have the right to restrict others in countless ways
- the state represents them
- the state can protect them
- they should do whatever the state tells them to do
- the state knows best
- etc.

And then there's Ron Paul, saying a lot of scary things that are contrary to what they believe. Making matters worse, dopes like Perry and Romney belittle (subtly, mind you) Paul's comments in order to win points with an ignorant audience.

On a side note, it would have been nice had they invited Gary Johnson to lend his voice in the debates. A lot of his views are consistent with those held by Paul.

The biggest hurdle for Paul will be

His image.

He doesn't look slick and polished and manly and in command and full of shit the way the others do. Really, his on-screen manner is not Hollywood enough.

TV watchers like a slick-looking smooth-talking guy. Every election people vote for the same crap "hope and change" but presented in a different way. Paul comes along and says "vote for me if you've had enough bullshit". He doesn't stand a chance unless he plays the game.

Frankly, our political system is broken, we are fucked until we fix it.

It's funny you mention these things (which I agree contribute, but think the media's negative view will overall have the biggest effect) as I've had a this thread going on reddit for the past couple of days which basically touches on these things. If you're bored it's pretty interesting to me to see what people there upvoted and downvoted. My user name is the same on reddit.

You're right, it's gotta be those bases really fucking life up for them, it can't be the thousands of Saudi-funded mosques preaching anti-American and anti-Israeli propaganda day in and day out, glorifying martyrdom and jihad, promoting the killing of the infidel, providing funding/training/weapons, and portraying America and Israel as the Great Satan and the Little Satan.

You retards mock the "sheeple" for swallowing mainstream crap when in reality you're nothing more than Ron Paul sheeple. You're the exact same type of virus, just a different strain.

What is it you believe again? I have yet to figure that out.

Except, of course, that you love the cowboy Rick Perry/

Bingo.

Good grief. There are a lot of folks in that reddit thread whose positions seem informed by a lifetime of indoctrination and ignorance. Not so different than what I've observed on WF. I chuckled at this, though:

From dalittle: no, the rich benefit disproportionately from US Government Services

From KoalaJones: Citation?
From dalittle: try being rich in somolia

From KoalaJones: You mean the Somali that is doing better on every index of well being than they were under their government?

Citing Somalia in no way furthers your point. I was going to write a thoughtful post in response about Somalia and how this argument in know way makes your point, but your use of the Somalia argument leads me to believe any further dialog between us is a waste.

I think KoalaJones knows a thing or two.

To your point about the media, here's my take:

The media are comprised of talking heads who are just as ignorant as the public. But their motivations are clearer. Since their main job is to deliver eyeballs to advertisers, they tend to focus on threads that have a lot of momentum, regardless of validity. I remember after 9/11, a lot of 'em were practically tripping over themselves to line up behind Bush Jr.

For the media, Paul has always been a great guy to beat up on since the masses already dismiss him. I agree their position on Paul will hurt his chances. But I have a feeling their position would be different if the public adored Paul. That is, they know who pays their bills. ;)

Well, the CIA and the Pentagon agree with Ron Paul, he just doesn't cite them as authorities.

The whole, "they hate us for our freedom" narrative is a fox news / neoconservative talking point, and is counter to the perspective that the USG and intelligence communities work under.

You retards mock the "sheeple" for swallowing mainstream crap when in reality you're nothing more than Ron Paul sheeple. You're the exact same type of virus, just a different strain.
Being divisive seems to be more important to you than understanding the truth. The facts don't support your position. That should bother you regardless of whether Ron Paul is part of the discussion or not.

This is true, although I think it's actually a bit worse on Reddit. It always amazes me who defensive people are of the tax system. Like this guy (and again here) and this guy.
But it's true that it's just indoctrination and ignorance. Sad really.

The reporters do what they are told and likely have little, if any, creative control over what goes on the air. Ratings undoubtedly play a factor, but I don't think it's so far fetched to believe that there is an agenda as well. After all, if you look at who owns our media, Ron Paul might be bad for business. It's not some giant conspiracy, but rather a bunch of people doing what their boss tells them to do.

You remember your High School Presidential election?
Do you think Ron Paul would have won that?

Guess what? Those people still vote, and they're still dumbasses.
