Ron Paul Launches Home-school Site

From their kindergarten page:

"This will begin on September 2. It will show mothers the basics of teaching phonics. It will be video-based, with instructions for the mothers on how to teach every aspect of basic phonics to their child."

It's interesting that they said "mothers" instead of "parents" in an attempt to be all PC.

Yeah I caught that right away too.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di25p0I-Xy4]Announcing the Ron Paul Homeschool Curriculum - YouTube[/ame]

This curriculum is 98% self-taught above the 5th grade. Students teach themselves. Then they tutor each other.
...
No student who gets through this curriculum will ever need to be nagged to get through college, graduate school, or a career. This curriculum teaches self-discipline. This is a crucial personal habit. It is mostly internal. It develops after years of working in an environment that requires self-disciplne.

Seems like it could work out pretty well. I know by the time I was in HS I just wanted to get home and read about stuff that actually mattered to me + work on my business ideas. I spent my entire HS career stoned and bored, and graduated with a 3.5 GPA without ever putting any effort into it. I regret it, and wish school had been more challenging, because it destroyed my work ethic and it took a lot of time and effort to rebuild it.

Getting students in the habit of teaching themselves instills the desire to self-lead and self-motivate, crucial elements of an entrepreneur. It also helps them build a work ethic at an early age - something our joke of a public school system won't do for most people.

Also, this is relevant: Khan Academy

It seems like a pretty good middle-ground to homeschooling and unschooling. I like the self-teaching aspect big time. Self directed/internally motivated learning is the best. Not, "you must learn this now whether you like it or not", that we see in a public school curriculum.

This is a Gary North thing (he's been working on this for years), promoted by Tom Woods, with Ron Paul on the label.

Like most Ron Paul products of the last 10 years, it's probably got very little to do with RP.

Will they be offering a basic economics class?

Yes.

the following courses will be available: English: grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10; history: grades 6, 7, 8, 10; math: grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10; science: grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10; public speaking; government; economics 1.

Dr. North will teach two economics courses, a Western Civ and Western literature course. He will teach a course on starting a home-based business....

I will teach economics this way, with one basic premise and three corollaries. Basic premise: "a free market economy is a giant auction." Corollary #1: "supply and demand." Corollary #2: "high bid wins." Corollary #3: "now, not later." This is all you really need. I wish most Ph.D. economists believed these three corollaries.

What a mess.

RP should have taken a look at the site before sticking his name on it.

"..obligation of the State to execute men, for the Bible sets forth God’s law. God has delegated this authority to the State...

Anarchists, rebels, warlords, and criminals all resent the legitimate authority of civil government
..." - The Sinai Strategy, Economics and the Ten Commandments by Gary North

'"When people curse their parents, it unquestionably is a capital crime," he writes. "The integrity of the family must be maintained by the threat of death." Likewise with blasphemy, dealt with summarily in Leviticus 24:16: "And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him.."

"Why stoning?" asks North. "There are many reasons. First, the implements of execution are available to everyone at virtually no cost." Thrift and ubiquity aside, "executions are community projects--not with spectators who watch a professional executioner do `his' duty, but rather with actual participants."'
