It wouldn't be much of a stretch to take apart an existing LCD, remove the backlight and some backing layers and have it do almost the same thing albeit looking pretty shitty. Not really a giant leap in technology.
You're telling me you need a big piece of glass to do this? You have to be pretty fucking retarded I guess.
Did some research on it, basically if you take the back off an OLED display it will do the same thing because they don't use a backlight, rather they emit their own light.
Won't be long until we have transparent phones, just a matter of shrinking the battery and electronics enough to not have to be under the display.

People were arguing the same shit with me when the iPad came out. "Ohhh it's just a big iPod why the fuck would you rather use that over a laptop." Meanwhile I was saying the iPad is about to become a raging success because it's a solid step into the future.
The Corning video above gives a nice glorified demonstration of the application of "smart glass". Of course you can achieve the same with your trusty laptop, but to those with money it'll be really cool to have technology like this. Imagine your glass shower wall turning into a giant screen where you can read your morning news feeds while you shower, stream porn, etc. People will use it.
