script to auto-start audio on page load

I've found a bunch of these but they all have some problems, such as...

-inconsistent behavior between browsers
-User browser plugin needed
-Page display distorted due to large embedded player even though options to display player = no

Does anyone have a good script for this? All I want to do is auto-play a short MP3 file for some split testing. I think I am missing a server-side component to make this work or something.

Could you upload it to youtube then just embed it but display:none or width or height 0 if you don't want it seen? Would save on bandwidth.

There's a tutorial here as well which people seem to have corrected in the comments?
