This guy just knocked on my door with a real shady sales pitch. It was somewhat clever i must admit. He just started the pitch by asking random questions and telling me he was from GE (a lie).

"How many cars go by?"
"Is there alot of public transportation driving by"
"What we will do is put a public safety sign on your lawn which is very small"

I asked, "Will you pay me to advertise on my lawn"
He responded "Of course we will compensate you"
"In cash?"
"We compensate with free products" (hands me an alarm system brochure)"

"Sorry not interested."

"Don't you like public safety?"

closed the door at that point.

I googled it and found this old, old method:

Security scam should alarm homeowners - The Denver Post

He should put his energy into online marketing. He was more irritating than a cancel/ok exit dialog on a landing page. The free alarm system reminded me of a forced continuity free trial offer online.

Anyone know networks with alarm system offers? Might have to try this out online.

ive had something like this happen to me too about 2 months ago. two guys came and were asking if we had an alarm system and then said because our house was in a high traffic area they offered to give us a free alarm system if they could put there sign in our front yard or some shit. i told em we dint have an alarm system and dint need one.

he persisted and kept asking stupid questions like "what if blah blah happened" and i kept blowing him off and the other guy he was with was staring off into space 5 feet away. i had no idea what he was doing and i told the guy i dint need it because i have dogs and guns. I asked him if he wanted to see them and he said no thanks and left. LOL

I used to do door-to-door sales. Yea.. its shady, but a FUCKING BLAST at times. One time, I got the cops called on me because I asked for a glass of water (was legitimately thirsty).. and afterward, the lady Googled it and teh internet said it must be a scam, so she called the cops. Result? 3 days in Camden County Jail (happend Fri, saw judge on Mon).

After that, I will never step foot in Jersey, as long as a I live. Fuck that place.

Edit: This was for magazine subscriptions, not alarm systems.

it would be funny to say something like this:

"haha nice try. can you believe i once was a door to door salesman too? sales tactics like that don't work anymore. you need to get up to speed on the latest techniques if you want to stay competitive.

[jot makemoniesonline.com on a scrap piece of paper]

take this, when you get home, check it out. its a blog by a guy who started doing door to door like you, uncovered some heavily guarded secrets about the business and landed up becoming a millionaire three years later.

you will thank me later."

damnit i wish i thought to jot down makemoniesonline and hand it to him. next time.

Next time I will agree to the alarm if he agrees to try out a free* make money posting links on google system.

Shouldn't a door to door security system salesman make his pitch while holding your flatscreen tv under his arm after sneaking in your window while you take a shit?

He'd get my money. Or a bullet.

:D

Whats with that thing in your avatar that vaguely resembles a dick? It's starting to creep me out, man.
