Paying them is the right thing to do. If too many people try to pull not paying an invoice, Google will enforce stricter paying procedures, that will affect everyone, including yourself later on.

Webferret: Do they have to? I think they're protected by 100-page TOS and service agreement.

Just pay them.

Barter with Google? Ha! They threatened to 'terminate relationship permanently' with people spending millions a year with them. From the official blog : 'We'd rather show one less ad than to show an ad which leads to a poor user experience'

Good for them but what a ... statement.

They don't care, they made $16,593,986,000 last year. I've been to Googleplex and enjoyed the Charlie's cafe lunch paid for by advertisers.

But that's right, things will change if that $16 B dropped in 2008.

You don't really have a choice to pay. I don't see how you're even debating it as if you could just go either way. You got the traffic. You owe them $200k. If you don't pay then you would need to declare bankruptcy otherwise you will find yourself in court or possibly even jail at some point.
I understand bitching about Google though. I've spent well over $10M on Adwords over the last 4 years of my business and I'm constantly getting slapped around like a little bitch. It's not fun. But I'm noticing what seems to be a fairly obvious pattern that Google doesn't really like affilates and they especially don't like many of the shady offers being distributed by cpa affiliates in particular.
In some sense I can understand though. If they didn't police their search engine like they do then nearly every ad served on Adwords would be some fake diet blog or some other similarly scammy offer.
