Should suicide be condemned?

I think it's alright if it's to escape extreme chronic physical pain or a terminal, debilitating, illness. Until you've had either of those you can't fathom the desperation people go through so go eat a dick if you think it's wrong.

Or to have in your living will that you don't want to live on life support as a vegetable if that were to happen.

I think you should have the right to leave on your terms, while you're in control, rather than deteriorate in front of your family who will have memories of wiping drool off your face and cleaning your ass.

In a truly free society I would suppose it is up to those closest to the mentally ill to convince him/her not to kill themselves. -But even then, just being mentally ill doesn't make suffering "OK." -If it's treatable, they should be treated, by the family's expense... If not, then it really must all come down to how much pain they are going through and how much their family loves them.

In the case of the OP, her family obviously didn't love her that much. Very sad, agreed, but she didn't have a way to make it all better so for you or the state to come in and force her to prolong her suffering is SICK.

Any attempt you make to refute that requires that you try to force your own judgement about how horrible suicide is onto her. Who are you to say it's so bad to someone who's suffering you cannot fathom?

Evolution is not relevant to this entire thread. I don't understand why someone above brought it into this thread at all.

However, on the separate subject of evolution, saying that it's "NOT a good force at ALL!" is like saying carbon is not a good element at all.

Evolution just is. It doesn't give a shit if you think it should or not.

Why don't you go condemn how things get hot when you heat them up next?

In your example about the toxins, we shouldn't be talking about evolution... The correct solution would be for independent testing/review firms to publish the warning that this shit is poisonous before many people die in the first place.

You only think they wouldn't do so because your standards are derived within crony capitalism and you can't imagine a world without the government arresting anyone trying to compete with the FDA.

1. Never said evolution was bad dude, re-read what I said. I just said it wasn't a force for GOOD as most people assume it is. It simply is a natural artifact of any competitive biological environment.

2. What I was saying is that people should NOT be allowed to commit suicide until a trained professional has a chance to evaluate their mental and emotional well-being first. You cannot honestly tell me that any rational and stable individual would choose death over life (excluding cases such as euthanasia, which I fully support by the way). I'm no monster. If someone is suffering through untreatable, unmanageable pain then by all mean kill them. Otherwise they are staying put right fucking here. That's my opinion on it and I absolutely refuse to budge. You clearly aren't a consequentialist and think more like a Kantian, no wonder we have so many disagreements. Personally, I'm looking after the wellbeing of the society that raised me. You're welcome to take care of yourself alone though.

Hate to be cliche here, but life is a precious gift. Sure, there are shitty times and moments, but don't those good times make life worth living?

Some days it just *feels good, man* to be alive.

So, Pewep, how do you plan on stopping them?

Neurological implants that are connected directly to an oversight/"help" network which detect emotional states and send out warning signals if an individual is feeling too much stress. There is absolutely no way that can be exploited to have negative ramifications on individual liberties.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh you are the master troll, aren't you?

Wanting to commit suicide reflects dysfunction, either in the person or the environment they are in.

This is an observation entirely removed from the question of rights, and it should be acknowledged.

In all the talk of rights, we don't ever talk about what it means to live in an environment that is conducive to physical and mental health.

I believe life works in an equal balance. It sucks but a person should have the right to do what they want. You can't be forced to live.

It's already bad enough we have to pay to be born and bad enough to die.

People are losing their IQ like idiots but they still should have the right to grow a plant and smoke it if they want.

All about the decisions we make. We should be letting things happne naturally so the stronger minds will prevail & hopefully make 'know better, do better' a regular way of life.
