The idea isn't new, it has been presented in Feb 2009 by MIT researchers: Pattie Maes and Pranav Mistry demo SixthSense | Video on TED.com

I wonder if Microsoft already had something to do with it back then or just got "inspired" by that presentation. Good stuff either way.
