I sell T1s ( figured others here would as well, but could be wrong). Believe me people who need it for business go for the reliabililty and don't compare it to residential internet speeds. Its not apples to apples. There is a reason business clients get business services and dont just say " oh wow Comcast can give me X Mbps."
Prices have really come down as well, $300? Everything was over $1000 when I started. I think most of my Covad accounts are $329 and up, but thats all location specific. I have a lot of companies paying $700-1000 for such slow speeds.
I'm not saying it's something you need ( and besides T1s there is a lot of other shit I offer, but I leave that to my other people). just in my experience if something is really for business use the residential offerings are just not reliable regardless of advertised speed and equipment. Then again 99% of leads I get for home businesses are guys who decide they need a T1 for some reason but want to pay $50 a month.
That said there's been a lot of good advice from other posters and personally I just use residential cable internet. Where I live I think options are Roadrunner, WOW!, or Insight. I used Comcast for years and now use one of those guys.
