I know this is one of the dumbest questions but I am looking over some templates and theres a choice of validitons like XHTML 1.0 XHTML 1.1 STRICT and transitional and HTML 4.1 and so on. I know CSS is good for SEO but what validation should I use when trying to SEO specifically for getting good google listings :)

Validation is pretty much a colossal waste of time.

I wouldn't spend 1 second worrying about it.

validation has little influence on SEO
if you have severe HTMl errors, you will be penalized - but XHTML validation itself is pointless

Well, I wouldn't say pointless. Being a coder myself I think it has a lot to do with how your site is depicted. I mean a clean coded xhtml/css document looks a lot more professional than a table based design.

I guess it's all how you want to be received to your clients or visitors.

I'm all about validation when it comes to designing for my clients, but I think for general affil and arbi sites, it doesn't make much of a difference.

cool so it doesn't matter really. planning on using css just cuz it looks good...
