Sitemap help....

As the title suggests. When I look at google for the sitemaps I have an error saying my site map is not the correct format. I did use there little example file you can download. So i am a little unsure.

I downloaded the examples from google
I edited the example file and updated it with the domain
I uploaded the file
and i submitted the sitemap
and i had the error there when i checked later on the status.

Not sure what type of site you are trying to use google sitemap for (static, blog, etc.), but search hotscripts.com for "google sitemap". There are a ton of free scripts that will create one for you.
 
I had some trouble submitting one of my sites's sitemap. Kept giving me errors concerning the robots.txt. It turned out there was nothing wrong with it. Google just took thier time accepting it. After a week or so, it just went through. No changes. Might just need to wait it out a few days.
 
Still the sitemap error

When I look at the status it says my site map is not the correct format. I wonder if I have left a step out. Any ideas?

How do you all usually create yours? I used dreamweaver to make the site map but should i have used something else?
