I really fucking hate Sitepoint. All the know it all dickheads show up there and rip your head off for asking a fucking question.

That post doesn't even tell people how to do it and the author admits he has never done it himself. He just tells the reader it's something to consider. Then one of the commenters says it may be "shady", risky and costs a lot of money.

Are these people on crack?

That's why I stopped visiting sitepoint - largely a case of the blind leading the blind.

It's ok for some stuff and there are a couple of good posters there, but c'mon, why would you get a guy to write about arbi without having given it a go - hell it only takes a few hours in experimentation.

Google loves them, they have authority and so their shit ranks even brand new indexed pages above established pieces. They churn out lots of articles because they know that, and whilst it may not all be amazing stuff it will make them money. Im sure that arb page will be ranking soon.
I mean check out this query one of their recent posts about TLA's new service, every mofo is blogging about that and with much better write ups but sitepoint are at the top.

Let them spread misinformation. More for us! :: shifty eyes ::

Don't worry boys and girls.. WF has a pretty good authority site rating, and it just keeps getting better. I did a lot of research into it too, because I was trying to figure out why a site like ours was killing the competition or catching up quicker than sites that have been around for much longer and had way more links too.

I have been making some new changes with link work, not to mention our content quality is slowly increasing more and more. I'm in no rush though, I think we are doing pretty damn well for a site that's only been around since late June 2006.

How do you measure "authority"?

You don't, bitch.

I have thought about doing this numerous times, and if I did I’d have to make the domain private (for my own peice of mind). But I’m not sure I want any of my domains to be private.
What if someone needs to tell me something important? I’ll have to see what private domains cost and how it all works.

Sitepoint isn't that bad. I have sold websites for thousands of dollars on the sitepoint marketplace with no problems. Most people are helpful if you have a programing question. I can understand the frustration over some of the painfully obvious questions or posts, but all forums tend to be that way to a certain degree since people are hesitant to divulge their so called 'trade secrets' to the public.

I dont know about you guys but sitepoint is where I started learning a lot about web monetization and development. i have a lot to be thankful for because of them. before that it was geekvillage, but they took forever to change from UBB. i did however dislike when sitepoint started charging for posts in their barter/trade buy and sell. i do like Sp's skilled photoshop users like vgarcia, he has saved me hours of photoshop frustration.

Yep, I started with Sitepoint too, but that was back in 2004. They tried to get me to write one of the $200+ "kits" for them last year. I did a little research, it turned out if they did well over $1,000,000 in sales I would be lucky to see $50,000. I talked to the guy who wrote their SEM kit and he said they fucked him on the payout and his royalty checks were always late. You can guess what my answer was.

Its really sad to see what has happened over there, their good bloggers are gone (Chris Beasly and Andrew Neitlich.) Lets face it, there are two types of people on the internet making lots of money these days: people that own websites and people that sell them (to Google or Yahoo.) Devoting your company to web designers is a like passing up hedge funds in exchange for personal budgeting.
