Sometimes you actually learn something while reading all those fucking sales letters, this time it was joel comms instant adsense templates 2. BUT, check out the link unit here. It's designed like tabs above it. Quite nice!

Too bad I can't implement any of these Adsense placement optimization techniques on my site - I guess visitors to digital camera sites aren't easily "tricked".

For example, I've found no difference in eCPM or CTR regardless of where I place my 336 x 280, whether above the fold or right at the bottom.

After many months of testing, I've finally resorted to placing all my ads after my blog posts (but before comments) in order not to antagonize my visitors.

aren't those tabs against the TOS?

btw, they are GREAT, thanks!

edit:
nm, just noticed they are not actually tabs at all!

f'in awesome idea, i'm all over it!
thanks.

Joel Comm is an asshat, But waite that is not my last word on this $32,000 value,
Joel Comm is a dick sucker, now are you ready to see just how far I am willing to go to get you to sign up TODAY?

Just today Joel Comm is an Ass but at 12 noon he will be an ASS HAT so you better get in on this now.

don't delay cause there are only 150 asshats left, they could be gone if you continue reading this whole thing

today just for you Joel Comm is a PUNK ASS ASSHAT!
that is as low as we can go take it or leave it, remember that is an asshat savings of $32,000!

Probably, so if anyone would like to give advice on how to "trick" the visitors into clicking eg at http://nikond200.dpnotes.com, I'll appreciate it. CTR % consistently hovers at less than 2%.

i'm a newb to all of this myself, but i think your site looks very good.

since you are using wordpress, you might try adsense-beautifier, or at least follow the premise of blending your ads with pix (i would think you've got a lot of photo-sets to work with).

there is some info here on using images w/ ad-sense:
http://www.improvectr.com/images.html

hope it might at least get you thinking about different ideas, good luck!

edit:
does anyone here know the correct answer about using images next to ad-sense?
or should you just shoot out an email and ask them on an individual basis?

i just saw that google is picky about images next to adsense, this is a copy of an email from an adsense rep referring to it:

" Thank you for your email.

As you know, some implementations of images near Google ads are not
permitted by our programme policies, so we ask that you exercise some
caution when choosing or placing the images.

Please do not place misleading images near Google ads or use images that
appear to be directly associated with the advertisers and their offerings.
These images may prompt unintentional user clicks, thereby artificially
inflating advertiser costs. By placing images near the ads you may be
drawing undue attention to ads. This may violate our programme policies,
so we are unable to approve the placement of all images next to Google
ads.

Please note that we constantly monitor all of the web pages displaying
Google ads or an AdSense for search box. If you decide to place images
directly next to the ads, please maintain a visible border around the ad
units to reduce the possibility of confusing users. If we find that one of
your web pages violates our policies, we will notify you and ask you to
remove the Google code from that page.

While Google encourages third party software development, it is our policy
not to endorse any specific product at this time. We're therefore not able
to comment specifically on the software you've noted.

However, we recommend that you read through the AdSense Terms and
Conditions ( https://www.google.com/adsense/terms ) to ensure that your
software is not in violation of any of our policies. You may also wish to
review Google's Software Principles, found here:
http://www.google.com/corporate/soft...rinciples.html .

I hope that this clarifies the issue for you. For additional questions, we
suggest you visit our AdSense Support site at
http://www.google.com/adsense_help . If you're unable to find an answer to
your question on our site, please feel free to reply to this email.

Sincerely,

xxx
The Google AdSense Team "

I like how some people spend their time trying to figure out how to "trick" people to click on their ads, and then spend the rest of their time trying to figure out what to do about being smart-priced.

Yeah, I just wanted to say something similar. All of you who are trying to trick the visitors to click on AdSense have to realize that Google monitors ROI (via AdWords and Analytics) and considers it one of the most important performance meters.
The "smart adsense design" as shown in the picture above may (and very probably will) increase the CTR, but it will decrease the ROI. This combination is definitely going to rise the "smartprice" red flag.
Instead of trying to increase your CTR, focus on increasing the CPM. Because that's what you're actually after. Money, not clicks.

thanks for the info, i had heard of smart-pricing before, but hadn't seen what it was until now.

Thanks for the compliment. I had tried almost everything, and decided in the end to just let my visitors figure out for themselves whether they want to click the (highly-conspicuous) ads or not.

I had the same idea. I tried it out but wasn't too happy with the results. It's tough to get the text to look properly centred underneath each tab. Not a big deal to some but I couldn't stand looking at it.

wow, nobody found my post above funny? hell I even got neg repped for it. I thought it was one of my better posts, oh well!
