So the owner of the company calls me into the office with his office manager and presents me with a letter of termination. Not for performance reasons but because of a "core shift in business model". His core business is selling technical training and the part of the business I worked on was a website we acquired from an affiliate who was looking to sell out.
In the year I was running the site for him, I increased traffic 29% (currently at ~1M unique a month & 4.7M pageviews) and revenue 120% till we were making around 15K a month from the site not counting the revenue from 90% of the ad space was setup to push traffic towards his training products site which counted for 20% of his total traffic on the training website.
I suppose some people would feel upset but strangely I am ok with it. I got around 3 months severance, my usual quarterly bonus on revenues, and he is still paying for me to go to Pubcon, which he will be there also.
Thanks to SEO_Mike and the newbie thread, I pushed into doing things for myself and have been making about 10$ a day now off of the work I put in from that thread. So I extend a big thanks to him for a motivating push. I got a little too comfortable working for someone else and forgot where I want to be in 5 years. I will now be able to put more effort into doing things for my own instead of someone else with a little bit of cushion.
Things always happen for a reason, I look forward to meeting some of you at Pubcon!
