Obviously no huge bucks to be made in it, but I've found a little piece of 'cottage-industry' 40$ software that I really like. It's about two years old, but unheard of; I think it's a hidden gem in the productivity niche. It's only got a couple of direct rivals, but they are poorly executed.
The documentation and tutorials are missing/useless, even though the software has a small, steep learning curve. The author's website skills are poor, as is his SEO and general approach to marketing. He claims he'll give affiliates 12$ for each sale, which seems acceptable.
Has anyone tried marketing a single piece of software before?
Was it worth the time/effort of building a site, screencasts & tutorials around?
How many sales did you manage?
How did you deter the author from shaving or keeping your dough?
Thanks for any advice.
