St-Pierre VS BJ Penn

I happen to love both of these fighters, and know that it can go either way.

For anyone to say one of them outclasses the other is outrigth dumb, they're both in a class of fighter that puts them at the very top of their game..

Having said that, and wanting to root for Penn, I think GSP deserves another crack at being the badass on the block and he's certainly capable of winning..

I call St. Pierre by KO/TKO in the 3rd..

:)

I'm in Vegas for the fight and I went to the weigh-ins today. Although I have to cheer for my hometown favorite I have to admit GSP is looking real good. BJ does have mad talent though so I'm still going to have to say BJ FTW.

I'm here for the fight too and also went to the weigh-ins. I like both fighters, but am a huge GSP supporter. I sat amongst fanatic BJ Penn followers and was extremely thankful that dirty looks was all I got based on my loud mouth cheering for GSP!

Based on the tv time leading up to the fight, it looks as if GSP prepped for the fight a lot better than BJ. On the flip side, BJ looks like he trained harder than he's ever trained before... They are both amazing fighters, but GSP looked leaner, meaner and hungrier for the win.

GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP! GSP!

They're pegging it the Athlete vs the Animal...
BJ > GSP Standup
BJ > GSP BJJ
GSP > BJ Wrestling
GSP > BJ GNP

I think if Penn can avoid the takedown and GSP's vicious GNP, he can pull it off. Penn just has to hope he doesn't get handled by a stronger GSP. He has better hands, a sick takedown defense, has rededicated himself, and is hungry.

I'll take Penn FTW.......uhmm, or GSP hahaha
How's that for playing both sides of the fence

GSP should be favored, Penn the better gambling bet

Just by reading the thread I can tell about 90% of you have just recently started following MMA.

To anyone who is saying GSP kicked BJ's ass in the 1st fight, what are you smoking? GSP was a bloody mess, Penn was unmarked. If someone just showed you the photos of the fighters after the fight you wouldn't believe who got the decision.

GSP does have a significant size and strength advantage, he's a very big welterweight while BJ is a big lightweight but not a natural welterweight. But size and strength have never affected BJ (who has fought guys as big as Machida at 205 without it being an issue). He was able to beat Matt Hughes at the top of his game and he's much stronger physically now than he was back then. The strength difference will help GSP avoid takedowns and score some takedowns which will be key in judging if this fight goes the distance.

GSP has terrific cardio, the guy is a workout fiend. Penn cardio is vastly improved, but he'll need to come out strong early while he still has alot in the gas tank as GSP will outwork him in the final latter rounds.

GSP usually has great takedowns and GNP, but the problem is Penn is hard to take down, even tougher to keep down (he has insane flexibility) and very dangerous submission game. He almost got a omaplate and a gogoplata in the first fight and never panicks.

GSP has better kicks in the standup while BJ throws the quicker, crisper punches. The last few fights GSP has had the luxury of fighting mainly wrestlers with mediocre striking games (Fitch, Hughes, Koscheck) because of his suspect chin. BJ has heavy hands so I think GSP will go for alot of takedowns especially if he does get rocked, these takedowns will win him points with the judges but won't necessarily inflict any real punishment.

If Penn wins, he'll win do it by the 3rd round, otherwise GSP will take a decision in a 5 round war. The winner of the fight might look more busted him than the loser.

I'd say GSP has a 60% chance of winning, I'm betting on BJ though because the +150 odds are better than GSP -189 right now. A loss for either of these guys doesn't tarnish their accomplishments, we're witnessing two of the top MMA fighters of all time at their peak. Should be a fight to remember.

you guys are idiots... Penn via whatever he hell he wants

can you say SIKKKKKKKKK?

First fight is Nate vs Clay, sweet.

I took GSP over BJ round 3 by TKO, Machida over Silva and Nate over Clay.

Pierre All The Way!!!

You know it is Sat. the 31 and I might just sound stupid if I am wrong but I think Pierre is going to dominate and school Penn, Either way its going to be an awesome fight!!!

jesus christ, i was expecting a super fight, but that was pure one-sided domination by GSP. i'm VERY surprised at the lack of fight in Penn. he definitely bit off way more than he could chew. at the end of the day, i think this loss will make him a better fighter back at 155 where he belongs.

...sure would have been nice to see a 5th round though. :)

Penn has had enough chances.. so much potential.. he is done.. the prodigy my ass..
GSP has the heart of a fighter.. just keeps getting better..

That was one of the best FIGHT NIGHTS in a long time..

GSP looked unbelievably ready, and poor BJ just look stunned, like Rich Franklin did
when he was first beat up by The Spider Silva..

WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT JON JONES ?? Where the hell did he come from
with his backspinning elbows and unique style, I predict he'll be fighting for the belt inside 18-24 months, or 4-5 more premium card fights..
