Starting a Dealership CPA Program

HOLD ON:

And I am sure at the end of the month you say, "Your leads didn't lead to any sales" even though 2-3 did. It is an untrackable system unless the affiliates would have access to your database of what cars sell and who made the lead. It would be more cost effective for your company to just use SEO and PPC to drive leads yourself and use places like ebay motors, cars.com, autotrader.com, etc. If you are going to do this then pay per lead at a rate of $10-$30 a lead depending on what cars they sent the leads for.

ARE YOU fucking telling ME that CAR DEALERS lie!!! ???

OMFG NO WAY.

Why are you doing it so fucking complicated? Sounds like thats all you need is leads and if your sales people are any good, they will convert the leads with good offers. Just do CPA leads, pay $5-$15 each. If 1% converts, you're doing pretty fucking good.

Man, this sounds like the sort of bullshit that telemarketer friends of mine get fed all the time. "If you were any good, you'd work on commission only".

No my friend, people who are any good at lead generation are good enough to make sure they get paid for the work they do, up front.

Dude, you need to fire some of your staff. If those lazy sonofabitches can't be bothered to do their own lead generation, they don't deserve to be called salespeople.

Like another poster said, halfway decent car salespeople have so much referral work coming to them, they wouldn't have time to handle internet tyre-kickers.

Anyway, why the hell are you buying leads from the Internet? People shopping online for cars are far more price driven than the dude who keeps coming back to the same local dealer, every time one of his family needs a new motor.

I would not trust anything that a car sales team says. Is this sales process supposed to be all online and phone?

How can you get someone to pay top dollar without seeing and test driving the car?

I think this would only work PPC or if I could place a pixel on a simple lead form PPL.

If the average selling price of a car is $30k then your crappy wanna be affiliate program pays less than one third of a percent on a sale. Do you realize how pathetic that is? Obviously not so go buy yourself a clue please before bringing this garbage here.

Yeah my whole point was per sale won't work because there is no way to track it. Lead generation is your best bet where you could get qualified leads for a lot less money and you will probably come out with a higher ROI in the end.

No offense to any car salesman here but...

Pay me per lead. That's it. I am not a bill collector and I do not want to have to hound you at the end of every month trying to figure out if my "deal' was closed or not.

You will play all kind of car salesman games and bend the truth a little here and a little there... It's all part of the game...

The only way it ever works with car dealershis is to make them pay you per lead.
Even that is a dicey prospect at times.

This is the only way to go about this if you wan't to make money from the dealerships. I was in the car biz for 14 years, on the fleet/internet sales end and dealerships don't mind paying for the leads, but good luck trying to get paid on sales.

Back in the day, dealerships would pay $25-$35 per lead from sites like Cars.com, AutobyTel.com, but this is no more. Why? Because the leads are generally shit and the leads are sold all over the place. When AutoTrader.com gets a lead, they'll often sell it to Cars.com and AutobyTel.com as well as sending it to the dealership. Because of this, dealers aren't willing to pay the big money per lead like they were 8 years ago.

Try to keep it in the $10 per lead range and you'll be competitive for sure. You should also be prepared to offer the first month for free. We always asked for a discount or a free month just to see what the quality of the leads would be before we started spending the money (and time) on the leads.
