Not bad, not great. I'd probably use paper.li over this.
You're not really adding any value to these other company's services. If anything, you're making them worse at the moment. Like, what's trending? Not very good duplicate detection. The blue text-only posts I can't even read. It's just a series of unintelligible images to me. Fire your designer.
Thanks for the note on the duplicate detection - it's something that we're working on for the live release. A high percentage of individuals post the same images / videos / etc. through their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. all at once. Also I should note that we're not really trying to add value to these services; what we're doing is aggregating them into a single stream that can be viewed on one page. I'll post a bit more on use case scenarios in my next post.
I'm not a designer however from my perspective, these colors are horrendous. It just doesn't "click" for me. IMO
Noted, thanks for the feedback. Just FYI this aggregate feed will integrate into the user's website with their own theme, and they will be able to style with templates / colors / etc. accordingly.
It seems kind of overwhelming to me. Best of luck.
Thanks for the feedback, appreciated.
Good job Erik! Representing #QLC like a true entrepreneur.
Couple notes:
-Me personally, I like things in chronological order so I can scroll through it. I guess we are just used to seeing single column stuff these days. I think that would make more sense considering the "story" and "tale" aspect of the business.
-Maybe the default is to display all the feeds together, but I would like the option to view just the "tale" from facebook, instagram, twitter, etc. (Maybe an option to get rid of one feed source all together if I don't like twitter for example).
-The UI definitely needs some work, but I think that can come later.
Good luck bro.
I believe that we're displaying in chronological order on
TED Tale | The TED social media tale, by Tale. but since it's a masonry layout it may not feel like it is. Please check on your mobile phone when you get a chance and you should see that the posts come up in a chronological, single column feed.
Also great note on the options - those will be in the live release. We actually had them in but found that many of the TED attendees / speakers / etc. weren't posting anything on services outside of Twitter and Instagram. When an individual / blogger / brand uses this tool there will be settings at the top so a visitor can select "All" or filter down by social network.
Idea: Good
Content: Good
Design: Weird with those columns - but that is just me probably.
Intent: Unclear. No above (or even below) the fold explanation about what the site is about.
Sharing/Virality: non-existent. How do I share this with someone?
UX: Poor. No clear distinction between videos, pictures, etc.
It is an initial version, so you can always iterate to perfection. Good luck tangy. Good on your part to post actual answers to serious newbie questions in the past, instead of trolling them.
Thanks for the feedback. We intentionally didn't give any indication of what to do, how to use the stream, how to interact, etc. as we are gathering usage data in real time to see how people play with it. I'll share your feedback along particularly about the UX.
I agree with zxcvb on all aspects. However, I don't think you should wait too long on the design aspect. A good design can really enhance things quickly. It's just too hard to read with the current design.
I would really like to see another company such as Techcrunch, CNN, etc. something that gives more newsworthy information.
Thanks for this - we're going to iterate quickly as we are pushing towards a proper beta release. Great idea to do a demo for a brand that has a number of key staff on social media... this is actually in the works on our end as we've identified a number of organizations that could use this technology.
IMO bright colours would be more appleaing and attractive than those dark colours.
And something doesn't seem just right, don't know what it is but, I feel awkward after visiting it. Maybe the UI is just isn't kicking it?
Thanks and I will pass along with the rest of the feedback about the UI/UX.
Not sure if its just me but on my ipad it is just a tweet, lots of black space, another tweet, more black space etc etc??
I have a retina iPad mini and it seems to be working fine although the amount of data tends to crash Safari from time to time. I'll track down my first-gen iPad and see if I can reproduce the issue. Thanks for the heads up.
I like it, but I would be interested in how easy it is to put my brand onto this. Oh, nice, but my brand is xyz.com .. now what?
::emp::
Once we go live this our service will be available by a number of means (plugin, embeds, iframe, etc.) that will allow for xyz.com to place a full social feed on a page of their choosing.
Nice concept, but scrap the UI completely.
Don't use dark colors like that. You want your user's to be comfortable & calm when visiting the site, so use light blues, greens, oranges, etc.
I don't get the whole concept of the blocks, which are even all different sizes, making it more confusing to read. Maybe put it into more of an e-mail inbox format -- each of those blocks should be say 70% the width of the page, and about 80 - 120px high. I should be able to read it all line-by-line, then maybe when putting my mouse of a "More Info" button / link, a modal pops with with full details / picture / video or whatever of that post.
Thanks for the feedback and I will pass it along. The masonry layout was one that we're testing to see how it looks; we're also building templates that force every update into a geometrically-aligned square or rectangle to keep the feed crisp and clean. The images pop in a modal when you click them but due to API restrictions with the social networks the rest of the links typically have to lead through to the update or profile page. I'll pass the rest along to our team.
I like the idea of a social profile aggregator, but it's seems like everyone is opting for a tumblr-style infinity-scroll layout. I'd much rather have filters that allow me to pick and choose which feeds are displayed. Am I correct in saying that every is being displayed chronologically, regardless of the source? Some kind of feed filter / separation would be awesome.
And, similar to what BoatBurner said, will a very unsavvy computer user find value in this?
Finally, you may want to move the text below the pictures instead of having them cover up half the image.
Thanks for this. You're correct in that it's all chronological. Filters by social network are built in, we just don't have them listed on this page as many of the social networks have no public data (YouTube videos, public Facebook posts, etc.) coming through for this particular event. It was also nigh-impossible to get a list of attendees so we're working with hashtags for a lot of it.
We'll answer our hypotheses with this data and other public tests, but in essence our goal is to make digesting an individual or brand's collective social media stream easier for unsavvy users by having it come up in a crisp, well-designed theme on a single page without having to bounce around through apps, etc. I'll explain more below.
Thanks everyone! Please keep the feedback coming if you have any. Cheers
