Strategy Games?

total war series for sure but am i the only one who thinks the empire total war game and this upcoming napoleon game is a horrible choice for time setting? I know its the logical step forward for a timeline but did anyone ever really like the gun aspect in those games enough to warrant a whole game based on that timeline? I want to see hand to hand combat sword fighting and all that good stuff from the previous ones. the gun units were the most boring part of the game.

It's not too far off form the Empires version and really enjoy that. I do love the lines of rifles but the ship combat is probably my favorite aspect of the game and it only looks to be getting better in the next version. That being said, I also really enjoy the Medieval II version. Too many games and not enough time though.

Ragdoll physics in an RTS is fun ^^

I loved Sudden Strike and the Close Combat series was awesome (A Bridge Too Far, etc.) but the problem I have with these games, the Sudden Strike/Blitzkrieg/Panzer/Company of Heroes series, etc. is the unrealistic ranges at which tanks and infantry engage each other and hit point armor (enough men with rifles can kill a tank for example). Maximum ranges that should be kilometers is reduced to a couple hundred meters at the most for the sake of arcade style game play. I did buy and play a lot of these games, but when more reallistic versions come out I quickly abandon the arcade style.

If I'm playing strategy I prefer it to be as realistic as possible.

This is why I couldn't get into AOE type games. Lego people in lego houses with a unit cap of less than 200 people drives me nuts. I like to control literally thousands of men which is why Total War games are so appealing to me.

This game, Theater of War, had tons of promise, but unfortunately fell short due to lack luster AI amongst other things... Battlefront.com - Theatre of War

I should give it another try though as it has had numerous upgrades since it's release and I see they have Theater of War II in the works. edit: upon closer review the Theater of War 2 game has been out for awhile.

i had a friend with four desktops in different parts of his house and me him and two others would play age of empires II against each other for hours.

literally some of the best hours of my life

damn dude! that chick got ROCKED in the face. I might have to check out some Jersey Shore

starcraft all the way. ALL the way. i've been clicking refresh on blizzard.com every 10 minutes for 2 fucking years waiting for starcraft 2 to come out.

I have spent the past two hours playing Age of Empires III. I blame this thread.

Civilization 4 of course. It's amazing! and if you like scifi try Galactic Civilizations 2 it's like Civ in space. Of course those are proper strategy games if you're looking for RTS you can't go wrong with warcraft 3 or starcraft and starcraft 2 coming soon. Also Company of Heroes is quite good as is Warhammer Dawn of War. Another newer pretty interesting and fun RTS is called Battleforge and it's like a card game mixed with RTS and very well made. Also if you like DotA theres a new game you should try called League of Legends.

Right now I play Heroes Of Newerth, Dota, and a bit of Starcraft. Mostly Heroes of Hewerth and my username is kokomos if anyone want to play.
