After reading a ton of this board, I've become really interested in SEO. I'm learning a lot about How-to, but I feel like I'm putting the cart before the horse.. once I have all this google-dominating, and traffic-getting knowledge, I don't have much idea of WHAT to do with it.

My goal is to eventually do things like the 200k/y and the 100k/y ideas stickied in the affiliate marketing forum. However, there's so much to know that I feel pulled in 20 directions at once, and I can't put my finger on a starting point. Where should I plant my feet and begin?

Also, I'm excedingly broke, so I need to keep costs as loooowwww as possible..

Well SEO is made for cheap asses. You could even try it on other peoples sites likes hubpages and squidoo.

Or longterm you can work on your own domains.

The main thing is to not try for too competitive a keyword at first. So you can get ranked. They you can do things to try to improve the rank.

You learn what works and get confidence.

Rinse. Repeat.

I'm in kinda the same boat. Here's what I did:

I found a low-competition niche
installed wordpress
installed a nice theme
installed SEO plugins
had some really good content written (20 posts)
publishing one post per day

The extent of my SEO efforts have been submitting one post to a few social media sites. It's been about 2 weeks since I launched it, and I'm already closing in on my main keyword (currently at page 4) as well as my secondary keywords.

There's a hell of a lot more learning once you dig in and get your hands dirty. Hope that helps.

Ebay Publisher Network + Wordpress + Phpbay lite + one of the incredibly cheap hosting deals that are posted on wickedfire somewhere.

= cash for noobs + great education at no cost

Good strategy with the Wordpress blog omgyams. Try some blog commenting and article writing (with submission to article directories). Works wonders, and the more links, the better.
