Switch User. Laptop Suddenly 1000x faster?

Not sure what's going on..

After like 8 months or so, let's say the "User A" account get's massively slow and buggy. So I just create a new user and use that, and it's blazing fast again, like a new laptop... (Comparable to reformatting).

But I can't figure out why?

Only use Photoshop, Chrome for the most part. Even with search turned off, and every windows feature set to basic after 8 months it will still run super slow.

Defrag, cleanup, deleting files, cleared browser cache, etc. Doesn't fix anything.. Blows my mind this new user account is so fast and loads Chrome in 1 sec with 5% CPU, but the old one couldn't even open Chrome without 65%+ CPU and freezing a bit.

No viruses or spyware, either..

....

Anyone know the reason why it does this? I'm kinda curious... :( M$ just trying to get me to buy a new laptop? lol..
 


What shows up when you run Msconfig? Some of the startup items are user based, not computer based.

Otherwise, C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData is where most of the user based files will be at. Maybe if you delete the Chrome data on the original account, it will speed up?
 
It's amazing all the crap that accumulates in the \AppData folder. I just migrated to a new desktop and there was gigs of space being used that really couldn't be deleted when I auditing the old file system. Run any of those space tools like spacesniffer and it's amazing the waste of space.
 
Idk, I usually just reinstall Windows/get a new PC every 6 months, but this time haven't done it for over a year, almost everything works fine and fast, except Skype, and the PC turns on extremely slow, about 5-10 minutes. Nothing unusual in msconfig, and hardware is fine.
 
Acronis saves lots of time when dealing with OS restoring:
You configure your OS ones, install/configure all the software you use and than create the 'image/backup/' of this state.

Any time you see your computer getting slower or smng is not working right, you restore from the state you've saved - literary takes 5 - 10 minutes.

Honestly, get an SSD. Although it wont "fix" the issue, it'll make it not an issue.

Every time I use an HDD based system, it's like going back in time.
 
I can't stand a slow computer, so I do everything I can to prevent from owning one. Here are some tips that apply for Windows XP or Windows 7. If you own Windows 8, no soup for you.


  1. Get CCleaner and scrub that bitch down nice and tidy like.
  2. Search your computer for msconfig and disable all unnecessary programs from running at start in the Startup tab.
  3. Search your computer for services.msc and disable any services you don't utilize. This may require some Googling to identify what each service does for you.
  4. Uninstall any programs from your PC with Revo Uninstaller and allow it to search for and delete any remaining files after the basic uninstall.
  5. If you own an anti-virus program and it's not Windows Security Essentials, then unfuck yourself.
  6. Turn off your visual effects by searching for Performance Visuals and Tools and adjusting your visual effects for best performance. Ideally, your desktop should have as much flair as Windows 98.
  7. If you purchased a prebuilt computer with an OEM version of Windows, make sure you uninstall all fucking bloatware.
  8. Solid State Drives (SSDs) might be a worthwhile option depending on what you use your computer for. Look into it. Also, look into ReadyBoost and if your computer is compatible, give that a shot.

Bought an SSD and could not be happier. Everything loads and works so fast. I removed my dvd-rom and replaced it with a 500GB HDD at 5400rpm.
You need a HDD Caddy if you want to do this. A 60GB SSD is enough for OS, Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, all the rest of my software + still got some free space left.

OP, if you do everything boatcleaner said, you'll have your comp running faster than a cheetah on coke.

but if you're a lazy fuck like me, just follow step 1: use ccleaner, and you'll be fine.

The real problem is that windows is a bloated piece of shit operating system http://www.testosteronepit.com/home...ment-warns-key-entities-not-to-use-windo.html. Use Linux especially if you value your security. Some trojans can keylog your Affiliate logins and ftp passwords. Don't be a retard and install pirated blackhat software outside a vm unless you want your baller aff campaigns stolen and sites traffic hijacked. If you have to use windows atleast get a keyscrambler.
 
See if you've got some printer management software running overtime, sounds crazy but on my pc there's some stupid lexmark crap that hogs a shit load of resources when running and even gets the fans whirring.

Open task manager > Performance Tab > Resource Monitor...

That works for windows 7 to help you figure out what's causing a high load and shut it down.
 
Unlike majority of WF I like slow computers.

I'm able to boil 3 eggs, prepare 1 black coffee with one sugar and milk and toast with cheese & bacon. All that in time space between pressing start button and opening STS.

I never mess with any of the cleaner programs.

I Just do this:

Hit the MS Start button and type in "recovery" -- you should have some sort of "recovery management" program installed from which ever brand it is. This will delete and reinstall everything back to the factory setting.

I've found this to work the best.
