I'm a sys admin for a small company. We have between 40-50 computers in our company. I'm pretty much the only one who oversees anything to do with them, also.

Having said that...can anyone suggest ways of monetizing affiliate offers or other monetization ideas using default home pages in browsers or other methods?

I'm relatively new to the affiliate/AdSense game but I figured that this position has to have some money making potential behind it. I'm not looking to spam our users and make their web surfing obnoxious. Also, realize that our external IP address is static and appears the same for all computers on the network. I know that could be a limitation for certain strategies.

Anyone in a simliar situation or have ideas to monetize these users and their web browsing?

Someone posted somethign like this the other day - create a custom homepage layout, w/ your google search and some targeted adsense, and then edit it to customize it for the user at each computer based on their interests...

Using Google Adsense search internally could easily make some $$ without being overly noticable you are making some side cash. Maybe even consider upgrading people to FireFox with their affiliate program. Good luck and be careful!

Still the problem is that his external IP is static for the entire network meaning all the of the clicks coming from ANYWHERE inside the network will still be from the same IP. I guarantee if you go the route of Adsense or FF referrals Google will ban your ass quick for clicking your own ads.

Yeah, I saw that post. But honestly that's too obvious for doing at work. People would realize it, definitely change it to something else, possibly report it to their dept. head, etc. It would get back to me and questions would be asked. So I can't go that route where the browser homepage is obvious.

Besides creating a custom, ad-filled browser homepage...are there any other opportunities that could be flown under the radar? Thanks.

Yeah, I wasn't even thinking of AdSense or FF referrals for that exact reason.

I wouldn't try to use your regular job to collect affiliate fees. You might be able to do something like adjust your router tables to add your affiliate code everytime somone from the office visits Amazon or something like that, but there's no reason to try so hard to target 40-50 people when there are literally millions of other potential sources of traffic outside of your office. Also, these people are paying you to work in a position that requires some trust. It's not worth it to try and nickle and dime them when there are so many better opportunities out there.

Why not just do your job well and get a raise? That'll be worth about 100x what you'll get from risking your job in this way. If you don't want the job, fine, leave.

If you want or need the job then forget about these 50 and try the 6.5 billion or so outside the door.

How about you make a list of most of the 3rd party vendors your company gets it's hardware, software and other supplies. Sing up for affiliate links for these vendors, then everytime you process an order, reach the vendor's site through your aff link. If you don't do the purchasing, just slip the aff link in an 1x1 IFrame on your main Intranet site, this way the one who make the purchase orders will most likely have the cookie and credit you for the purchase.

Beware! this is unethical, and (I don't know for sure) may even be illegal where you live. Follow this at you own risks.
