You're missing the point of the thread.

Believe it or not people who have money tend to enjoy spending it on things that mean something to them. Some don't, if that's you then fine. Start your own thread about it.

Your ideal is simply a fantasy that few aspire to, and even fewer fulfil. Those with responsibilities to the real world (kids, jobs, etc) recognize it's not practical in our society unless you have few responsibilities.

...And don't put John Reese on too high of a pedestal. He, like a lot of turned minimalists, is simply trying to run from those responsibilities. I'll go no further into that.

Boom!...plus rep.

Some days I wake up and feel like I should be a minimalist, and realize we are a society of wants, not needs.

BUT-I work hard and believe it or not I love my massive, big screen TV and stupid little toys that many deem over the top or a waste of money.

Meh...to each his own.

Oh I get the point. From my veiwpoint it's a point that would never have to be made if only he'd learned in time what you're all going to learn in time. ;)

There are more minimalist bloggers living the life than you would believe. Many have kids. It's just about being fed up with the commercialism of this day and age, not really anything else.

Most of us believe that it's the natural evolution of the human race. We tend to like being free and once you know shit, there isn't any other way to be free.

And John Reese is on no pedestal of my making. I tend to honor folks who succeed at stuff. :D

A Huge house full of unknown heaps of crap?

Someone needs to learn a thing or two about minimalism...

I aspire to only own 100 or fewer items, and I sold my house a decade ago and will never own another.

Fire insurance is something I never have to worry about again. Nor is a $5,000 moving bill.

Do you live in an RV?

->This shows you have some brain cells.

->This shows you choose not to use them for some reason. The TV is a dead giveaway... The #1 tool of commercialism.

You're right about "to each his own" though... That's why there are thousands of different forms and levels of minimalism... I'm sure there are even those who keep a TV set around like myself. ;)

Heck no. I live in an apartment.

That guy is clearly of a minimalist mindset but has a much much much lower standard of living than I do. -Could you imagine futzing with sewage lines or taking a dump in those tiny, unsturdy toilets?

I think he actually uses public facilities most of the time. He parks near restaurants, spas, gyms etc... And uses those facilities. He uses internal facilities only when on the move or lazy. He never mentioned this, but this is a feeling I get from ready many of his posts. So obviously not a solution for everyone, but he's definitely got something going on there.

You're still missing the point.

This thread is for those of whom have homes and don't have your ideals. Nothing more.

This was never meant to be a conversation, just a helpful suggestion. Kind of like the last thread.
