Hello all,

If I'm wanting to improve my rankings in Google.co.uk as well as Google.com is it more effective to build some backlinks from sites with .co.uk TLD aswell?

I generally don't go after those specifically.

Or am I better just continuing my link building strategies i.e. profile services on Wickedfire that don't target .co.uk but improve my overall SERPS?

Cheers in advance!

It depends. If you have a domain which is .co.uk hosted on a server in the UK then it won't matter what you send at it. It will rank in Google.co.uk. If its a .com hosted in the USA then you need to indicate to Google that its a UK site. The domain of inbound links is a weak indicator in my experience, so assuming its legit you could use Webmaster Tools (WMT). If however, its an autoblog or whatever, for God's sake don't use WMT

Hey Darkwing and thanks for your answer.

It's a legit site that I work hard on daily however the market for it is worldwide. It is hosted on a US server and I don't really want to indicate it's a UK site on Google WMT as I also have a large USA audience.

The question originally came up because there are two UK sites I am trying to rank above and was curious if I could go after .co.uk in another way other than telling Google it's UK only.

Looks like I should just continue to build as I have been and hope to rank better on .co.uk too.
