Tell Congress: Don’t censor the web!



LOL!!!! I saw this on wikipedia (blackout) like an hour ago, then alla sudden on googles homepage. Funny shit. LOL @ voting too. if the powers that be say something should come to pass, it will. Your voice, my voice - means nothing. Voting gives people an illusion of having an equal vote. Common sense brah.
 
As much as I hate this shit I feel these efforts are pointless.

These massive companies aren't going to do this over and over again every time a new bill is proposed and whether its in one year or five its going to happen.

Still, you gotta sit back and appreciate the effort today.

Pretty much every english speaker online is being exposed to SOPA AND PIPA today and all of the ones that have any political bones in their bodies are doing something like signing the petition, talking about sopa on facebook, or both. This is honestly the first time we've ever seen such web-based, worldwide cooperation for a political movement. (So says a Ron Paul voter. ;))

I sure hope it works but like others have mentioned, in the long run something is going to slip through that we won't like one bit.
 
the least we can do is object to this, as they cut away more freedoms and liberties...
I think its a real nice idea, not sure it will help, but the people up there should know this is not going on un-noticed.
 
I'm surprised non of the big tech companies have caught on the bank argument... "if you over-regulate us, we will just move and stop contributing to your tax base/economy altogether".

Every time the banks do it, it has the politicians peeing their pants with fear.

Although that may be because far more politicians get jobs with banks than tech companies after their time in government.


Congress are so dumb - it's clear they are bunch of out-of-touch fucks who don't realise that that they're about to permanently screw up one of the US's few remaining globally competitive industries.

I really appreciate Wikipedia and Google stepping up to do this. Google should have changed their logo too though to a ball and chain or something. It is pretty impressive as between the two of them they easily reach most of the world. Obviously neither really care about us, they just know that their insane profits won't be as insane.

I really hope it helps but if they really want they will play dirty just like what happened with the gaming laws. They slipped that shit into the port safety act. So I'm sure when they don't get their way they will find another way.
 
Chuck Schumer has already disconnected his phone. Guess he has no interest in representing the people who voted for him, and won't even face them over the phone.
 
Marco Rubio isn't answering either and his mailbox is full.

BTW, the way you stop this shit from happening repeatedly is by having a strong lobby against it. Because on this particular issue we have tech giants in our corner, there is a possibility that we can compete with Hollywood on the lobby front and keep this shit out of congress.
