GNR... Use your illusion. It changed my world and pushed me to become a better guitar player. How about you? What album/group had great influence on you.

I just recently switched my favorite genre of music to "melodic death metal"

It's exactly what it describes and is actually quite badass if you give it a fair enough shot. In fact In Flames is melodic death metal and is from the same town in sweden that pretty much all melodeath bands are from, which isn't a lot.

Gardenian is my new favorite melodeath. They take a bit of getting used to but if you listen a few times you'll probably get into them. Unfortunately they're split up now and all the members are now in big bands such as children of bodom.

Rolling Stones
Sinatra
Alkaline Trio

Those two bands and Frank didn't change the world for me, they just made it worth living in.

Scorpions when I was young. Years later, Dream Theater.

For guitar work, Satriani, Vai, now Greg Howe.

I'm going to be the first one in this thread to be made fun of probably but whatever - I don't care.

Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman's music got me through some really tough times and challenged me to be more than what I was. I go see him live any chance I get and even though his style of music isnt my "type" nowdays I still always have a CD or two in my car all the time.

Deliguy.. and anyone else who likes different types of metal should check out A Dark Halo. Industrial metal at its finest...awesome songs.

Tool - "Learn to Swim" says it all for me:

Mostly Prog Rock ==> Pink Floyd, Tool and Porcupine Tree (Steven Wilson is a fucking genius)

First Band the turned me to harder rock was System of a Down.
