Need your help WF! I've personally been to the Big Apple many times, but this time I'm bringing some of my good friends along that have never been there.

They aren't the touristy type, so no statue of Liberty and what not. We just want to know where the best places go to in New York are, something that we can only find in New York and can have an amazing time at.

Any recommendations for comedy shows? Karaoke bars? Clubs? Places to eat? Things to check out? Anything?

Thanks for all your help and...

GO RANGERS!

(sorry just had to)

Ok, heres what you do. You go to Serendipity, its on the north east side of Newyork @ 225 E 60th St, New York.

You walk in there, sit down, and tell them you would like to order (lets say you have 2 friends with you) 3 "Golden Opulence Sundae's"

I promise you it would be the experience of your lifetime! :food-smiley-010:

It's more like you head over to Serendipity, put your name on a list with all the other tourists/mother's with kids, wait an hour outside in the cold, and then sit down and order. The waitress will probably make sure you know you are ordering $3,000 worth of ice cream.

As for restaurants, my favorite place when I lived in Manhattan was Aureole. It's a one-star Michelin restaurant that is somewhat reasonably priced. If I were with other foodies, I'd try to get a reservation at Per Se, even though it's overhyped in my opinion.

Natural History Museum - Paleontology section = most awesome!!

oh - Karaoke bars.... not good anywhere in the world. Talentless people singing songs that I don't like and doing it badly.... shudder....

What the main goal you are looking for? Nightlife? Good dining? Culture?

All of the above + more? Just anything that is plain fun and not too touristy. Ambiguous, I know, I apologize.

Get tickets to go see a live taping of something like Letterman or some shit. I went with my cousin to a Letterman taping, saw Edward Norton and some other celebrities, was pretty cool bro.

Isn't there a long waiting list for that? We have about 4 people total including me.

Day: Rockefeller center. Better view than the empire state. Museum of modern arts. Chill in Williamsburg and make fun of hipsters

Night: Clubs: Kiss&Fly, Cielos. Get realllly stoned and hit up times square. Do a bar tour on the lower east side/east village.

So much shit to do in NY

all the museums are dope...seriously...

for comedy I'd check out who's playing at carolines or make a reservation for free for the comedy cellar in the village. just go to their website for free reservations. upright citizens brigade is awesome but you have to shop up mad early and wait on a boring block in the cold for a while or else you will get shafted with seats...usually the back of the line ends up sitting on the floor.

karaoke...I don't do that but just go over to korea way and you'll be set.

drinking...depends on what you want. Clubs for the club stuff..just depends on who you are with and how much you want to spend. lower east side for younger crowd bar hopping. Meat packing district for a bit more trendy bar hopping.

I don't do much tourist stuff but most people like rockefeller over empire. definitely go check out ground zero. you can hit ground zero, trinity church, wall street, and the bull in one small loop.

I'm not sure if you can just show up and get tickets for a taping, most people I know that went got them in advance but I really dont know.

food...everywhere and everything. this is really a hard one as there is amazing food at all price points and styles. any specific types of food and price ranges?

I would say MOMA if you are an art lover, but really any of the big museums are amazing. As far as bars/restaurants take your pick, in the city I recomend CABANA for cuban and mojitos and GONZALES AND GONZALES for amazing margaritas and salsa dancing beauties.

Russian Turkish Bath House

10stBaths

Run by a bunch of Russians in the bottom of a building. You sit in super hot coal fire heated rooms and then jump into a freezing cold pool. Seriously one of my favorite places in NY and definitely not on the "touristy" radar.

I second Cielo. Check Resident Advisor for clubby type stuff.

Also, stay out of Midtown, it's all tourists up there.

i said this before in another thread, but get the chicken and rice on 53rd and 6th ave after 7pm only. i think its most and highest rated thing on yelp ny.

theres another bar/restaurant called please dont tell. visitors find it pretty cool. its next to crifdogs (the pinks of ny) in st marks and to get into please dont tell, you have to go into a phone booth and pick up the phone, then the door opens. honestly i think its pretty gay but the idea of it is good. pinks is a famous hotdog joint in cali if you dont know.

Any rooftop bar. One really good one is at the Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District. East village is pretty hip. Go to Hell's Kitchen for the food. Really...anywhere you go, you'll have something to do and a really good place to eat.

have anyone tried Hell's Kitchen yet? I just realized that its in NYC :) LOL
Next time I come to NYC I'll try to give it a shot.
